While others find rings, I find about ten knives to every ring. I found another one in about an hour hunt after work. The plate on the side reads scout. Its a little larger than the ones that I've been finding lately.

My first Knife

This is my first knife found while MDing.......Not old but it sure was fun as I found it on my first day out.....No markings found yet, not sure how to clean it.
Any pointers on cleaning?

Tom

Try spraying it with WD40 and the use fine steel wool. That should remove a lot ot the rust. For deeper rust, a fine emery paper should help.

Thanks for the advice Silversmith 45, Ill give it a try since its not worth anything.....I found it with the blade open and need to clean out the hard sand and rust ..........

A spring would not be too hard to make as you have the old one for a pattern. If I ever learn to post pictures,I have a fair collection, including some "shanks" from the prison. those are no no things ,but the prisoners make strange things. Bob

Here are a couple more that I found while detecting.

This was the last one that I've found. It was about nine inches deep in a park.

This Leatherman knife was was in the same park, lying in deep grass with the blade open

Are those really yours:shock::shock: They all have finger slots in um!

Sure are

This is not one of my minature knives. I bought it about twenty five years ago and I still haven't been able to identify it. The guard and the handle have been replaced. The only changes that I made was to cut about an inch and a half off of the guard. I guess whoever used to own it was afraid of cutting himself because it takes a razor edge. I made the heavy sheath for it. If you look close at the second picture, the blade is stamped US. In all my years of knife collecting I have never seen a US issued Bowie. I saw a picture of a knife in an old auction catalog once that had the same blade design but there was no other information other than it was a Bowie. At first I thought that it might be a cut down Corpmans Bolo, but the handle angle is different. Anyone have any ideas?

Looks similar to a US issue V-44, just with a retooled handle. Blade is extremely similar.

This thread reminds me that i shouldn't dig with my hands like i did earlier today. Can end badly.

gtoast99 - The Gerber Paraframe that you have posted in post 72 is like the one I carry every day. here are pics of two that I have found on one piece of property.
