What does everyone do for a living?

I work for Metro Transit as a city bus driver. I have been with them for almost 7 years. I worked at thier rail facility as a Train Operator for 2 1/2 years. Been back driving a bus now for about a year. The train was way too boring! I have also been self-employed. Owned a popcorn store and a poolhall. I play the five string banjo, that's where the "five" comes from.

Here is a link to my page at the Banjo Hangout:

I can walk and chew gum at the same time and listen out for any pack of ladies that can't believe how incredibly sexy and hunky I look swinging a stick with Micky Mouse headphones stuck to my head and wearing a camo'd fanny pack with stuff in it for diggin in the dirt and after all that the sight of me sends them into a mating frenzy and want to molest and take me home at the same time.

Thank you Metal Detecting Hobby!!!

I'm another male and I will tell you what, If I saw you out in the wild looking like that I would run up to you immediately. I'm sure we would then compare sticks and discuss the contents of our fanny packs.

New to hobby

I have yet to buy my first detector but I am very interested in doing so. I am an Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician and a graduate with honors from Ringling Art School in Sarasota Fl. I am mainly interested in anyone who may be searching for meterorites in the west Florida area. I have been a subscriber of "Lost Treasure" and "W&E Treasures" trying to understand more of the hobby but of course the more I read the less I know. If there is anyone out there who could help me I would truely be greatful. Thanks.

I can't help you but I know what you mean about the more you read the less you know - I learn more from people's posts and hands on than reading from a book. The last detector I had (a Fisher 1236-X2) I sold on eBay, a fella from Arizona bought it. He told me he wanted it to hunt for meterorites. Haven't heard back from him on what kind of luck he is having. Steve.

After 10 years as a store manager for homedepot, (those 80 hour weeks were eating into my swing time), left them and now manage a pet store. Like to say "I pet dogs for a living".

Explorer

I make money doing mostly Electrical and Plumbing work or basically any phase of home building. But I?m basically a full time explorer though I haven?t made any money off of that yet except a few nuggets of gold. I?m on a cross-country horseback trip and have been since 1993.

I carry a large array of electronics that is powered by solar panels. I?m also a survival expert and can live off the land in the mountains, Death Valley and even a city like Los Angeles. I?ve been there and done it; full term not a weekend outing. There have been days I have processed acorns into flour for bread, then latter that day compose a letter on the computer in a mountain wilderness. It is a mix of Computer Age and Ice Age.

I am documenting the trip and now have a good camcorder that does TV broadcasting. I hope to make a living having fun and traveling. I love to write and interview people I meet along the trail. This is a great country and a country worth fighting for!

I may travel on to Peru, South America for more adventure. My friend has lived there for 30 years as an anthropologist and said there is a demand for packhorses to get into new ruins! I?m 43yo now so I?m not sure I have the gusto I once had to battle a trip through Mexico, Central America and Columbia. Things have changed a lot in the world.

I?ve climbed to the to p of Mt Whitney on a horse, crossed Death Valley and caught a wild stallion in Arizona. The Mustang came into camp to take our mare as his own and I roped him during the act of breeding. It was pretty easy but we were both beat up. The stallion bred one of our mares that gave birth to a beautiful Palomino Pinto! We gelded him, trained him and he now has his very own herd of five mares.

The government wanted to kill the wild horses, saying they were strays form local ranches, even though this area is a designated wild burro and horse area. In our fight to save the wild horses, we got a blood test done on our stallion and he is Spanish! The bloodline goes back to some of the fist horses in North America. This was a major help in saving the horses. Check out this website http://www.conquistadorprogram.org/advocacy_news

The two pictures of the horse is the wild mustang stallion. One before catching and one after I caught him and hobbled him. He was stressed for 30 minutes until I brought him a mare. He not only enjoyed the mares but also oats and when we itched his fly bites. He mellowed out where we could lead him in two days. I caught him with no coral but only a rope. He drug me around and I was so sore I could hardly move for a week! He was a lone stallion looking for a herd. He loves his new life and loves people.

Dane (horse),

That's a phenomenal life you're living. I've started to read your website after reading this post. It looks to be very interesting.

It's great that you can manage to live off of nature. That's something I would like to know how to do and try for a period of time. I don't think that's going to happen any time soon, though. I guess I'll have to live that life through your stories for now.

Traveling on horseback is great because they can carry a lot of gear to make life comfortable. I?m not out to rough it because the outdoors is where I live. This is no weekend outing. Another positive on horseback riding is that the horse is a grazing animal and other animals sense this. You can see much more animals from the saddle. You don?t have to watch where you are walking and you have a high view.

It is hard to learn to pack. There is a lot to learn and little literature on the subject. Traditional packing doesn?t work so much for the long-term packer.

I have a large array of electronics including a Mac laptop, Metal detector, game boy, ham radio, shortwave receiver, alpha smart word processor, camcorder, digital camera, mp3 player, DVD player, electric LED lighting, infrared burglar alarm, water bilge, with fiber optic lights, Xenon lights and radio controlled turn signals on the horses. I also have a radar detector and two-way radios along with a cell phone. I also carry a telescope, microscope, fiddle, silver flute, harmonicas, poker machine and color television for entertainment.

Electronics is a hobby and I also entertain backpackers in the wilderness. There is a movement against horses in the backcountry so I educate many on the benefits of horseback riding. Hungry hikers warm up to a big diner and full breakfast, and love a movie at night after their long stay in the wilds. Once they ride a horse, they are normally hooked

Thanks for your support! I plan on riding to Florida. There is the Florida Trail that is 1000 miles long. I also want to visit Disney World, see sea shells, alligators, chiggers and SCUBA dive sink holes! When I get there, you are welcomed to ride along to learn about packing. I have a system to load a horse with 200 pounds of gear in 36 seconds, which is the fastest in the world. Professional packers take about 20 minutes.

This picture is of the house we rented in Las Vegas. Story is on the website.

What an amazing life you live. I am an avid outdoorsman and have some survival skills of my own. But to be living the life you are living is beyond my meager abilities.

God bless you through all of your adventures!
