Simplex New Generation series

Nokta may be competing with the Vanquish.
Vanquish has three levels of trim.
340 is Very simple.

A little more $$ = a few more upgrades.
Just good business.

I do not see enough change to move up from my original Simplex but I sure have to look hard at the Legend.
Yes, and what is next, three new Manticores with pay-for options? Looks like a bad habit to get started in to me. I would think buyers should be getting gunshy by now. Do you buy now or wait for the next optioned models?

Same dilemma exists with nearly all popular consumer goods, especially electronics.
Cell phones, for instance. Graphic cards, lasers, cameras, you name it and another model is just around the bend, so at some point of time if you want it, you have to pull the trigger. I think its fairly rare when a newly optioned model comes out that makes current owners truly remorseful and ready to ditch their units, the upgrades seem to be purposely underwhelming but enticing to prospective new owners ,, And when they come up with something that is actually ground breaking, then a new unit is launched.

True, but then what I see is not three different models, but three detectors off the same line with different options enabled.

The Manticore is not just a different optioned Equinox, just as the Legend is not just a different optioned Simplex. I see the NOX 700 & NOX 900 as the same detector with pay by options. Just as I see the Simplex lite, BT, & Ultra. Same detector with pay for options.

Cannot disagree with that observation.
But you can look at iphones the same way, same phone with a better camera, more memory, bigger screen ect. Or vehicles, you want to pony up for those heated seats, built in GPS and sunroof, or no ??
I do think metal detector companies should keep their brand model variations limited to 2, a base model and upgraded model ,, Shoehorning 3 into the lineup is kinda pathetic and reeks of a crass marketing ploy [which I guess it is].

I can see that happening. That is, a particular company's production line producing one top tier detector. The detector would come with various features disabled depending on how much the end user user wants to spend.

A rough example could be SMF and selectable SF for the top price, no SMF but selectable SF for the mid price, and one frequency only for the low price.

I imagine that would save the company a lot of money on production costs, but I doubt that would necessarily equate to lower prices overall. Fair prices are only achieved when one company doesn't have a monopoly.

EDIT: To clarify. I mean the company only produces one detector. Ok, perhaps a kid's detector as well.

Some guys seem genuinely miffed about this, don't see why. Minelab is obviously trying to saturate the mid/high end with their stream of close cousin, look alike releases, so Nokta is attempting to do the same with the low end ,, A market which is probably just as lucrative as the high. Is Minelab and Minelab only allowed to flood the market with jacked up models of previous releases ? Don't think so, and the next logical step for Nokta would be the Super Legend, which I suspect is being worked on as we speak.

Its just like a Freddy Kruger movie franchise, you milk it to the bone with release after release until interest finally dries up.
Then after that you camouflage it.
