Detector recommendation for child

Been away from the hobby for about 10yrs. Looking to get back into the hobby AND include my 7yr old kid. Any recommendations for a detector for him that will be a good size and weight while also being easy to learn and use?

When my son was young he had a Teknetics Digitek. It was the perfect size for him when he was in his single digit years.

A Garrett Ace 250 or if you can find one a Fisher F2 would both be good for a kid to learn the ropes of detecting.

I am wondering if the Vanquish 440 would work? It only weighs 2.6 pounds. You can pretty much turn it on and go. That way, you would have a nice backup for yourself too!!

Hi LPC. 10 yrs ago you say you quit detecting. What was the reason? Now you will start again and with that you want ya 7yr old is interested into the hobby, too. What do you expect?
My experience has shown that a quality, brand-name device is the better choice. The finds speak for themselves, as does the quality of discrimination and identification. Furthermore, if a child doesn't like a particular device, a brand-name device can be sold more easily. Craig's List also offers brand-name devices, so you can also delight a child with a bargain and good finds.
In my opinion, the greatest treasure is the time spent together. And so that the child doesn't feel left alone, I recommend starting with the detector for the child and letting them search under supervision. This way, you can offer advice and support if the child has questions and help with the recovery of their finds.

Don't forget a handheld pinpointer. Must have. Here's the unpopular opinion. Mine cost $13.00 last year and is still going strong. Some spend $80.00 and swear by those. I would go inexpensive for now....

My granddaughters, who are relatively small, had their best luck with my Vanquish as it adjusted smaller than my others and was very easy to understand. I also have the F2 and Ace 250 but the Vanquish just worked better for them.

Minelab X Terra Pro.... $229 on Amazon. Lots pof bang for the buck. I use a Deus II and bought the Xterra for friends to use if they wanted to try it out. Very pleasantly surprised with its features and ability.

Nokta Middy Hoard, it's even submersible. A few years ago We bought a Mini Hoard for one of our granddaughters, the Hoard detectors are nice machines.

Go find is a good one for 7 to 10 year olds.
Nokta, Minelab, have a few light weight easy to learn kid friendly fun detectors specially developed for that age range.
You can probably pick up a new one with video for kids for under $125.
It's cool that you're picking up the detector again and very cool that you'll be sharing this fun time with your child.
