I want to upgrade from the Vanquish 440 and am looking at Exterra Elite or Nokta Score 3 (in my price range), any recommendations? Mainly detecting beach, woods, & fields.

I made the jump from the 440 to a Legend and have absolutely zero regrets. Lots more customization options and a bit of a learning curve, but have found a lot stuff at older permissions that the 440 missed entirely.

Can you tell us specifically what you didn't like about the V440? What was the reason for the jump?

I dont not like it, but I want full water protection, wireless earphones (I currently run an adaptor but thats an extra thing to keep charged) and I was thinking the higher number scale would be better for identification

The larger vdi range is NOT better for target ID. Get an Equinox 800. Would be easy to learn coming from the 440 and still one of the best detectors ever made.

Thanks for your input I have been looking at the equinox and it's very nice just a little more pricey than the elite and I'm pinching pennies

I don’t trust the 600/800 waterproofing. For an accidental drop fine.
Non-saltwater hunting the bigger scale can help cherry pick but vdi can be wrong and shouldn’t be counted on plus the bigger the scale the more jumpy the numbers will be. I can’t argue against the elite or score but I won’t trade my 540 for either one. (To be fair I also have a Manticore though) The 540 has built in Bluetooth. My problem with the elite is no Bluetooth, you have to use their headphones or a big heavy adapter (same complaint with the manticore) The score doesn’t have the coil size I like, the SC24 is close but I like the V10 coil better and the Vanquishes swing better for me. I also prefer the ML tones a lot more than Noktas. I use a Bluetooth transmitter on my older detectors and its very small size makes it fine but it’s not waterproof.
Good luck finding “your” detector.

Oh I loved my 440 but wanted something with more options and depth. Found a lot with my Vanquish but really wanted to connect bluetooth headphones and to save custom configurations for different terrain/targets. I was between the Legend and Equinox 800 but ultimately it came down to price for me as they seemed quite similar in functionality.
