New equinox update incoming?

Minelab 800s are flooding the used market right now...and when the Deus II becomes more widely available, the flooding will only get "worse." Might be a good time to upgrade if you're willing to get a used machine. :cool3:

I think "flooding the market" is a bit of an exaggeration. I counted about 10 used Nox 800s on Ebay right now. Considering the detector has been out for around 4 years, has sold very well, and it's the start of winter in many places, that's not exactly an unexpected number to see for sale. I doubt it would have looked much different months ago.

In fact, looking at the recently ended auctions for the Nox 800, nearly every one of them sold, and typically for $650-$700 without accessories. If some of these people are selling Nox 800s in anticipation of the Deus II, then there's people gobbling them up.

I have no doubt some people that have 800s, or are getting a higher end detector for the first time, are going to go to the Deus II. At 1600 dollars before any extra coils or accessories, we're talking about a small group relative to the existing and future Equinox 800 user base. Outside of internet discussion boards, I think the Deus II is a bigger issue for Minelab's CTX 3030.

I've considered a CTX 3030, and I'm certainly interested in seeing more about the Deus II. I don't care about or need the completely wireless set up. I'm interested in performance in iron dense sites. Either way, I'd be highly unlikely to unload my Equinox any time soon as a result of the Deus.

For those who have had success with the Equinox, selling a proven detector before putting a new one through its paces doesn't strike me as something a serious hobbyist would do.

I've been in the market for a used Equinox for many months and finally bought one late last year. But during my time looking for an Equinox, there would be about 0 to 1 for sale on my Facebook Marketplace at any given time where I was searching for any metal detector within about a 4 hour drive (if not further; FB's algorithms don't make sense sometimes so I was getting results in CA and NY, for instance). And I would search Facebook at least 2-3 times a day to see what was recently uploaded.

But in the past few weeks, I see multiple Equinoxes for sale (600s and 800s) AND multiple listing showing Equinoxes that have sold. Kinda odd to see almost nothing for about 6 months then now I see multiple offerings in my general area.

Then there's the used Equinoxes being sold in classified sections at online message boards. There are definitely more for sale now than in early 2021, for instance.

I could be wrong as to the reason why I'm seeing more used Equinoxes for sale...and maybe it's just a coincidence. But I know I'm not wrong as to what I'm observing - more people trying to sell their Equinoxes.

Another factor is that eBay in 2021 changed their selling policies. And starting in 2022, there are additional IRS reporting requirements for people who receiving funds through electronic means, like Paypal. So there could be a shift away from places like eBay and more towards more informal methods, like Craigslist, FB, message boards, etc.

Just looked at Facebook marketplace. For what it's worth, there's not a single used Equinox 800 for sale or recently sold in my area in KY. Nothing on Craigslist either in my area.

FB's alogrithm's are really weird. You can say you only want results from a given area and it'll give you results from outside your search zone.

Or on Monday, it'll say it found nothing in your given area and give you results outside your search area. Then on Tuesday, it'll suggest an item within your search area that's been listed for several days or weeks.

I just did a FB Marketplace search for Minelabs in my town + 80 miles. Here's what it found with respect to Equinoxes:

- A 600 in Pleasantview, TN
- A 600 in Walton, KY
- An 800 in Mt. Juliet, TN
- A 600 in an unknown location, but it might be TX
- An 800 in Blue Ridge, GA
- Multiple 600s and 800s in Cincinnati, OH (although this person is always selling Equinoxes on FB, so not sure if he "counts"...)
- An 800 in Loveland, OH
- An 800 in Jacksonville, IL
- An 800 in New Market, TN
- An 800 in Arcanum, OH

And yes, many of these locations are well outside my search zone. Sometimes I'll get results from thousands of miles away.

6-12 months ago, my search would have come up with 1 to 3 results for an Equinox, depending on the day. Often, nothing would come up (except maybe someone who's in the business of selling metal detectors).

There have been more Equinox for sale in my area. Undoubtedly, some of that is from people wanting to fund a new Deus 2 purchase and/or a Legend purchase who see them as better choice for whatever reason. Also, it is 2022. Any Equinox bought in 2018 is out of warranty and we may see more sales as those purchased in 2019 go out of warranty.

Indeed. Somebody with no plans to switch can sell their out of warranty unit and buy a new one. Maybe switch to the 600 if they've discovered they don't use the 800-exclusive features. Between the built in battery and waterproofing concerns, it's something to consider.

I've seen those same listings from the guy in Cincinnati over the years.

I think the listings from far away come up because the seller says they're willing to ship. I'd rather not see those listings by default.

Good point

Which is funny, because at least half of the people I negotiate with on FB for an item they're selling say refuse to ship (despite their listing saying otherwise).

If the Machine is running the best it can I don't get why people want Updates?

I see Post saying we haven't got any updates in months on machines but if the machine doesn't need a update do you want them to just make one anyways?
I would like to see them add a 4th recovery speed to the 600. With 3 being at 6 they should add a 4 being at 8. It is still fair you can't dial in the perfect recovery speed on the 600. Plus you don't have all the tone adjustments either. So a update adding a 4th recovery speed equal to 8 would be awesome.

I second this.

I made a joke about them adding Ferrous-Conductive I.D. in the next update, and while I doubt that is possible with the present Equinox I think I remember someone who should know saying it would be entirely possible with the next iteration of a Multi-IQ detector.

I actually believe Minelab may have intentionally left Ferrous-Conductive off the Equinox as not to compete with the Etrac and CTX which were both more expensive, and still being made. The Equinox platform was competition enough as it was without making it more so by adding a Ferrous-Conductive I.D. scheme. The Safari's I.D. was a traditional I.D.. Evidently to make it a less costly version of the Etrac, but still have the advantage of FBS I.

Maybe it's just me wearing my tinfoil hat again, but it makes sense.

Now that you've had the 10x5 Coiltek for awhile, what's the ruling? How often is it on your Equinox? When I'm near the perimeter of a house, or in a signal heavy area out in the open, I usually feel like the standard coil is a bit big and the 6" coil is a bit small. My main permission right now is like that a lot.

With all the new videos coming out about the dues II, do you all suspect minelab will have something up their sleeves to boost performance on the nox? The deus is looking like a solid machine. I hope it is. Nothing better than companies competing and we all benefit from it.

I hope so, but the Deus II is still almost twice the cost. It had better be a lot better.

Heck remember the ML talk about the Etrac and it's ability to use their software to apply all thier updates in the future. Well remember all the ones you allied? Didn't think so.

Personally I never take my 10 x 5 off. The equinox with this coil is an amazing setup. I have all 3 minelab coils and they are all collecting dust now. Haven't taken the 10 x 5 off since I got it back in the summer.

You know what you're doing, so that's a pretty good endorsement. I searched through the forums and everybody seems pretty happy with it.

It's hard to get rid of options (coils and detectors) once I have them! I always think I'll end up in some situation where they will come in handy and then kick myself for getting rid of them.

My 10x5 has stayed on since getting it also. That was about 3 months ago. To be honest, I do that with about every new coil I buy. The keen thing about the 10x5 is how it hits 9" deep coin garden coins ran hot, but its real ability is how it finds six inch and less targets in high trash. I keep finding missed coins in old hunt spots with it, time and time again. Lower sensitivity(19), faster recovery speed(7), and I now like 5 tones with it. I was always a 50 tones guy.

Anyway, if you have dead places that is trashy like I do, which you still beat to death, this coil will find missed stuff, plus it is slim and fits into tight places. JMOH
