OK, I understand. I considered an 800 but don't think it would do anything my 600 doesn't already do.

For my hunting style and level of experience, the 600 is more than enough for me, too. I'd gladly take an 800, but not for an extra $300!

I'm curious why you want an 800 when you have a 600? What is the benefit if you're a dirt only hunter?

I think it's the inclusion of the the wireless headset that sways many people away from the 600 to the 800.OK, I understand. I considered an 800 but don't think it would do anything my 600 doesn't already do.

I want to be able to adjust my tone breaks and volumes. Mainly for nickels. In trashy areas it is way to hard to pick them out with the 600 because they sound like everything else unless you want to walk around staring at the display all day. I hunt with markinswpa (who uses an 800) all the time and I can tell you this makes a difference. I have no doubt I am missing some targets with the 600. As far as being a better detector, I've never seen anything that both the 600 and 800 would not see and we compare targets all the time. It is really just a matter of being able to single them out.
Minelab 800s are flooding the used market right now...and when the Deus II becomes more widely available, the flooding will only get "worse." Might be a good time to upgrade if you're willing to get a used machine.

However with the availability of cheap aftermarket wireless headsets, that's probably not the factor it was once....
I find it funny that Minelab includes the WM-08 module with the 800's and it seems like few guys use them. I own two of them and it is all I use on my 600. I have also used the ML-80 headphones and still prefer the WM-08 for speed and overall sound quality. Being able to use any headphones you want is a bonus as the seasons and conditions change.
You are right..I have had my 800 about 3 years or so, and have never used the WM-08 unit until very recently but when I did try I did not have much luck pairing it in the field...
I bought a set of full cup wired headphones to use in windy/noisy conditions but could not get the WM-08 to pair to try them.
I tried several times with no success...tried them again when I got home and they paid first time! I must have been doing something wrong in the field so will try again next time I am out...
Yes I think so and it's good if you are trying to teach/coach a youngster..I think you can pair up to 4 modules to one detector if I remember correctly?

When I had the 800 I was giving nickel a hightone, and everything from around 20 and up a hightone..I was going back over sites with other machines that didn't have the tone break/ pitch adjustment features.. and I was finding alot of cool tokens, jewelry, etc. .Big eye opener for me on what you leave behind when you do the nickel hightone thing .
Yeah, after reading about that, I'm wondering what I'm missing with my 600 over the 800.
With an AT Max, there's no way I could look for nickels or similarly toned items unless I was in a tot lot. With the 600, I can hunt for nickels and related signals. However, I have to look at my screen a lot more instead of just waiting to hear the right tone (I hunt with 5 tones). But if I could designate 12/13/14 as high tones (or "next-to-high" tones), then I'd definitely be finding more nickels...and maybe more jewelry, too.
Why not just notch all numbers you don’t want out.
My opinion is no update is needed. People mess with settings too much and lower the potential of the Nox. I only run park 1 or field 2, noise cancel, ground balance and just adjust sensitivity to suit the soil. No need to mess with recovery speed. Just run slow you will find deep targets even in trashy areas.

If Minelab had something up their sleeves I would think they would drop the bomb now to stop some of the heat from the deus II and legend.
They have been pretty quite lately.
I don't think it's fair (or logical) to conclude that just b/c Minelab isn't making an update about a new product or tech development right now it must mean they don't have anything in the works.
