I was able to go back out this morning to the old farmstead near Ryder, ND where I found the 1907 Indianhead penny on Monday. I figured there had to be more to be had there.......I was not wrong!!!!
First I started checking between where the house was and where the barn was and I scored a 1911-S semi-key date Wheatie! I didn't notice it was an S mint at first and was happily surprised to see that tiny S on further inspection.
After that I stumbled around down by where a sort of ramp was formed that led to where the well was. I got a really good high tone and figured it was probably some big piece of copper or something.....wrong! I popped the plug to see a great big silver looking back at me...a 1903 Barber Half Dollar!! Right next to it was another high tone that was pretty much at the surface as I was getting a triple beep. I thought for sure it was another silver and sure enough it was a 1918-S Standing Liberty Quarter.
After that I figured I was done finding the good stuff until I got yet another high tone about 40' from the pit that the house sat over. It too was giving me the triple beep since it was so shallow. It ended up being a 1902-S Barber Quarter! Sadly I gave it a bit of a scratch since I was trying to take a video of it while trying to dig that tough sod.
At that point I thought, "That has got to be all there is.....no way there are any other goodies."
Wrong!
I wasn't sold on leaving quite yet with all the luck I was having even though the wind was blowing about 30 mph. I went back down by where the rock foundation for the barn was and just dug everything. Lots of shotgun shell ends and other bits and pieces. I came across what I think was a 12-30 signal on the CTX and my mind was blown when I dug out a super old, super fancy gold ring!! I'm not positive it is gold but I'm pretty sure. My guess is that it is a low karat gold since it has no corrosion or toning of any kind.
Three hours after I had started I was cold and exhausted from the constant wind and cold so I took my treasure and headed home happy as heck!
(One picture has my 14 karat gold wedding ring next to the one I dug today......10 karat maybe???)

Dude I love your enthusiasm and your incredible finds!!!! April 17 2024 will be a day you're going to remember for some time. What a haul, can I bring some Michigan buds to help you clean up? Great post and keep swinging!

Great post. Great play-by-play. Love those live-in-situ reveal shots. Those are the "come to papa" moments.

And yes, of course, North Dakota is this side of the Mississippi River, Tsk tsk. So we keep all the key date S mints ON THIS SIDE, right ? :D

Best post I’ve seen in awhile ! Love the old coins and the great shape there in and the gold signet ring is beautiful! So is that other gold ring ! Nice digs man . Wtg !

Over-the-top cool finds. You almost had a major Barber trifecta. That would have been awesome as well/ You had a seriously good day. Well done.

Thanks man! I was super jacked that whole hunt....it was one of those "I wonder what I'm going to find next!?" hunts! God it was fun.....the wind was blasting, I had my winter coat, beanie and neck warmer on but I didn't care, the thrill of the hunt was keeping me warm!

Yes! Keep the S mint coins over on this side of the Mississippi! It's funny that I didn't even see the S mint mark on the 1911 Wheat until I got done and got out my loupe. I wish I hadn't dinged the Barber quarter as I have only ever dug 3 of them and all have my signature on them but I'm not mad.....it was a great hunt!

Outstanding hunt!!!! A barber half will be on my bucket list a long time I think! Lol! Beautiful finds! Congrats!!
Thanks Timber! Somehow I've dug a Barber Half each year now for the past 3 years.....I need to go buy some lotto tickets my buddy keeps telling me 🤣

Great job! Wow silver and gold.
Thanks Mason! I thought that ring was copper at first but than I thought "Shouldn't there be corrosion or tarnish or some kind of crust on it?" which led me to the conclusion that it has got to be some kind of lower karat gold. Either way I love that ring....I love the fancyness of it! After finding it I almost put the Silvers on the back burner but than how many times does s guy dig a Barber half!?

Wow! What a day! So much so you hardly even mention the 1911S Wheat cent which could be worth $50. A day like that would have my heart pumping continuously - I might not survive at this age.
Right!? I totally put that semi-key wheat to the back of my mind because the finds were so crazy! I want more hunts like that...."Oh, a rare, valuable wheat......oh look, big silver and a gold ring, what wheat penny!?" 🤣 It was super windy and cold the whole time but the finds had me pumped up to where I didn't hardly notice my frozen fingers and constantly running nose. I will not soon forget that hunt!

Thanks romy! I'm proud when I can make a good post like that. It was a lot of fun making the post....not quite as much as the hunt if you can imagine. The bright yellow gold ring is my wedding ring that I used for color comparison with the one I dug....mine is 14 karat so I'm thinking the one I dug is 10 karat maybe?? Not really sure I guess

Thanks hoser! I never for a second thought that all those goodies were out there waiting for me! I told my buddy that based on the little cellar hole that the house sat on and the fact they used field stone to make a square on the ground for the out building to sit on meant to me that they probably didn't have a lot of money.......well, my guess is they didn't because they dropped it all in the yard! Someone had to have been pretty upset that they lost that ring.....that thing is awesome!

Wow, what a great hunt. If you can tolerate swinging the CTX (I could not, too heavy for me for more than an hour) it will really lock on sold to silver. Loved the CTX, but too heavy for me. I would sure like Minelab to just make a light weight CTX3030. Don't change anything else on it, just the weight. Again, supper hunt.

Oh ok makes sense cause I didn’t hear mention of the 2nd gold ring lol . Anyways I would say so too both signet rings I have are both 10k as well .
