Now that the weather has cooled off and the poison ivy and ticks have mostly receded, it felt like a good time to hunt one of my favorite spots in the woods.
I spent about an hour getting skunked with old shotgun headstamps until finally a nice solid 24 VDI signal yielded an old Large cent about 3 inches down.
It's pretty toasty, but if I wet it down and hold it at an angle, I can just barely see the flat-faced profile of a Matron Head (minted 1816–1839) on the front.
Toasty or not, I'm pleased to have found it. It's interesting to think about how different the world was the last time someone held this coin.
Thanks for looking - HH!
