Prior to this weekend, the last three outings to my most productive spot had all been pretty unspectacular...nothing but junk. Even with my "new" detector all I was finding was junk metal, so I was pretty much convinced that the "good stuff" had already been found. But we all know that there's more good stuff there...we all know that we certainly haven't found it all. With that in mind, I headed back there this weekend and started my searching as if it were the first time I had ever been there...I started in exactly the same spot where I had started on my very first excursion to that location. Within the first ten feet I found a nickle. Not an old nickle (1971), but I know I had been over that spot three or four times already, so how did I miss this nickle all those other times? Anyway, finding a coin reinvigorated my hopes and dreams...."maybe there is more "good stuff" buried here after all", I told myself. A few feet further, a 1963 Canadian penny pops out of the ground. By the end of the day, I was pretty happy. Nothing too spectacular (though the 1904 IH made me very happy), but considering how many times I have search this location, I was more than pleased. While I'm here, does anyone know what the "buckle" looking thing might be? It's not a buckle (it's thin and hollow on the back, not a solid piece), that much I know...but I'm not really sure what it might be.
I'm hoping to start searching at my new "old school house" location soon, so this might have been the last visit to my lucky spot for a while. Maybe letting her sit undisturbed for most of the summer will insure a successful re-visit if I head back at some point in the Fall. You know, give them "goodies" a chance to think it through and decide that they finally want to be unearthed and become part of my collection.
