Toys, let's get the lead out...

Cool digs there Tilton!

I'll bet that elephant came in loud and clear!! :shock:

<*)))>{

Yeah, it ripped through my headphones. I am not sure how to figure out what material it is though. How does one figure out metal content besides precious metals? It doesn't polish up at all.

My first & only lead toy so far. Found in front yard at 1870's homesite.

I think a lot of the old toys were cast from pot metal.

A lot were, especially cap guns, pot metal is zinc, and does not hold up well at all in the ground.. Most of what is on this thread is lead. I think that elephant that Tilton posted might be bronze.. Bronze can get a really tough surface oxidation that actually forms a protective layer on it. It can be really tough to polish through..

Matmit, your elephant is very cool, I hope you find more info on it some day..

Lordy109, I love that soldier with the flag!!

Here are mine - the most intact ones, anyway. The soldier with the gas mask and missing arm struck me as creepy when I dug him. They are all from the same old school area, and I am sure there are more. I find more toys there all the time. The hollow headless guy may not be lead, but he is not pot metal either, so not sure?
