Door Knocking Produces a Few Silvers (Barber Quarter)

Got out again today in Ray, ND right down the road from the rig I'm working on. I was thinking of just sitting around for my off tower but I felt a need for a coffee in town which spurred me on to do some door knocking.
First house I stopped at there was no answer, 2nd house I stopped at I got the okay. The owner said the house was built in 1918 so I knew there was potential.
I ended up getting a Barber quarter, Merc, Rosie and a couple wheats. There was still a lot of memorial penny-like signals there when I called it quits but I ran out of time and had to head back to work......not bad for an hour of detecting though.

Thanks LtS! I'm already at 26 Silvers on the year and its not even May yet! Last year I only had 29 the whole year. I've really had some good luck starting out this year and I hope it continues.

Thanks GTimber! I'll tell you how I go about it......I usually knock 3 times as I dont always know if the doorbell works. If and when they answer I say, "Hi. Say, I'm working in the area and I'm on my off tower and just going around doing dome metal detecting. I've also started a YouTube channel of videos from metal detecting and I was going to see if it'd be okay if I checked out your yard?"
I also include that I dig very small plugs that I pop out to get at what I'm detecting and put them back in so that you can't even tell that I've been there.
I would say my success rate in the past month has been about 90%.
Main thing is to be friendly and confident. I sometimes worry about my appearance as I'm 6'1", bald with a goatee and have a number of tattoos but that doesn't seem to put many people off. Goodluck to ya and I hope you find some good stuff!

My buddies are a bit jealous of all the silvers I've been digging this year but I tell them they need to do some easier detecting for a change instead of old ghost towns and farmsteads all the time. I've racked up a load of silver already just doorknocking at pre-1950's houses in the town where I live and in Ray, ND near where I work.

Yeah, I've got my fair share of tattoos. Half sleeves (no face tats tho) and a goatee as well lol. I wear a ball cap mostly other wise I have a standard high and tight. I'll give it another shot when the weather clears up a bit. Its horrible because I'm a very confident guy lol but when it comes to knocking on a strangers door, I dunno lol it's hard to figure out haha.

When I first started out door knocking I was very nervous about it but as time went on I got really comfortable with it and I'm guessing I probably came off as being confident and friendly which I'm sure helps me score a lot of Yes responses. Maybe take your hat off when they come to the door as a show of respect....I bet people would really appreciate that and be more inclined to throw a Yes at you. Main thing is be sure of yourself and don't worry about getting shot down here and there. I still get the shaft a good 10% of the time but u just accept it and move on to the next door. I hope you have some luck with it bud as those house yards are where all the good stuff is! Goodluck man!
