Rehunted an 1850s farmstead site today and found these. I pretty much dig everything that isn’t obvious deep iron or a pop can overload. Thought it was apiece of a tab top at first but upon brushing it off I saw it was round. A shocker when I saw it was a silver coin.
 
A 1781! That is out of the park cool. I can only imagine what it would be like to find one of those beauties. Big super congrats to you for these awesome finds.
 
Any remnant of the triple gilt left? That will frequently hang in there a while. I heard somewhere that you frequently find such pipe stem sections because others would also smoke the pipe.
I have read that too.
