Weather was beautiful today, the bugs seemed to be sleeping, and I had the day off. Yessssss
If you read my post 2 days ago, I started on a property that has two homes on it: One a mid 1800's farm house and the other the farm tenant house built probably in the early 1900's. Back on Saturday I got a 1902 Barber half dollar, some Indian pennies, and other great 1800s stuff by the farm house. Today I worked primarily at the tenant house, which is vacant.
I got a great variety of really cool things. An even 10 wheat pennies (mostly from the 40's and 50's), a '41 dime, a G.A.R. button, and other things are pictured below. Funny thing is, I told the lady of the house that I really wanted to find the skeleton key to her kitchen door. I did find my second ever whole skeleton key, but it was by the wrong house! Oh well, not complaining.
That thing that looks like a Buffalo nickel is a button. It confused me for a moment. I thought I had a miniature nickel...
I really didn't think the spoon was going to be sterling. I haven't been that lucky yet. But whoohoo! The more I cleaned the more I didn't see any copper showing through. The backmark (and the gouge I put in it with my shovel) confirm that she's solid!
I'm going to have to research the keychain fob (which I was very excited to dig up).
Detecting back to the car, in front of what used to be the bank barn, I hit a solid target and brought up the pocket watch. After I put water on it I got my hopes up that it might be sterling. After some aggressive cleaning, I've decided that it is plated (but the plating is holding up remarkably well...). But I still like it.
Used the F75ltd and the Equinox 600 today and they both found good stuff. I was going to just use the F75 but it wasn't dealing well with the overhead power lines. The Equinox was a bit quieter.
Tomorrow's plan is an 1800's blacksmith shop turned house which is vacant, falling down, and is going to be bulldozed this summer....and the owners mow the grass Will letcha know how it goes...
