MD search in Russia

I have a little experience with this and can explain it a little better (for those who aren't familiar. I have a friend who is from Moscow and joined my church.

Anyway, apparently Lenin and Kruschev wanted to have a completely secular society. So much so that they essentially persecuted the religions in the country. God was removed from schools, people of faith were made fun of and ridiculed. As far as I could tell, though, (from my friend's stories) those of faith did not have violence directed at them because of their religion.

So, anyway, that brings us to the fall of communism in the country, and we find a people with a weakened religious theology. But like Duppon is stating, the churches there are being rebuilt. All sects, Jews, Christians (Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, etc), and even Muslims.

Much of what you describe occurred during the mid 1920s when well over 1000 Russian Orthodox bishops and priests were killed. Of course during WWII Stalin then needed the support of those same churches/people in the war against the Nazis and many churches were reopened. That ended when Khrushchev came to power, he returned to the original policy of Marxism-Leninism. I'm by no means a fan of organized religion but people certainly should have the right to worship as they please. Having said all of that, the churches in Russia are spectacular buildings and the one that Duppin has shown would be a wonderful restoration..........If walls could speak.

Detectorists who get to hunt Europe are so lucky, just for the fact that over there you can literally find coins from 1000 or 2000 yrs ago. Where here its about 300 yrs of coin making......congrats and very jealous......hhh

Thanks for posting. My grandparents are from Russia and I've never even seen pictures of what the countryside looks like. Your finds are amazing too.

Love your Cammo also ! I would like to have a set of those .

And Russia is an awesome place , thanks for the photos . I would like to go there someday and look around and hunt the fields .
I bet you find some really old things there . Stuff we never see here as we do not have that much history behind us . At least from the European settlers.

Those are some of the best pictures I have seen on any forum, metal detecting or otherwise. Thank you for the views of your country!!!!

Very nice finds, stories & pictures.

In the 80's when I was in my teens I used to listen to Radio Moscow, Radio Kiev on my shortwave radio. Was interesting to see what was coming from behind the Iron Curtin & Mother Russia.

Keep the stories & pictures coming!
