Going to destroy the ATPRO

Let me flip this around,

,you keep saying how much the ATP "rocks". From your info above, it doesn't appear that you have used anything other then ATP. So I wonder why you like it so much?

;)

Well since its waterproof you always can wash your back with it in the shower

I'm sorry, I don't think I'm allowed to laugh at that.

Earl down at the hardware store uses his ATPro to prop the back door open when it gets hot.

I have the ATPro, Fisher F5, and Fisher F2. I go to the Fisher F5 all the time since I like the knobs on top and its just my favorite detector. Plus, I have spent only an hour with the Pro

Heck I have a CTX 3030. And get high tones on tin and foil. co# 45 to 47. And the icon shows on the 45 line. The machine just started this after it came back from minelab from a check up. Sending it back in the fall. Tin or can slaw use to shoe at 25 and foil use to show at 15. I am using fe coin. With auto plus 3. And it is running at 20 to 23. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have said this before, but you need to find your own comfort level with a machine.
What is the best machine for you? Not the same as the best for the next guy, quite likely, for many reasons. It has to be the one you will stick with and use long enough to master.
Even physically we are all different. I am only 5 feet tall. I need a machine that can accommodate my size easily. If it is too heavy or not ergonomically correct for me, I won't put in enough time on it to learn it, and I may be too distracted by discomfort to concentrate properly.
Even more than that, I need a machine that works with my own range of hearing. As we age, we ALL lose some hearing, but the range varies from one person to the next.
Anyone have the Samsung Galaxy S5 phone w/ Lollipop? Sorry to digress a bit but there is a point. The stock music player, in the settings, has something called Adapt Sound. It lets you set up your music player to work with your headphones and your hearing ability. It plays beeps like a hearing test and you select which ones you can and cannot hear. Even with very expensive headphones, there are some lower middle to low tones I cannot hear. The results are shown as a graph with your variance plotted and you can listen to a music sample with and without the Adapt Sound changes made. These changes adjust the tones so you can hear more of them. I can definitely tell a difference, as can others I've compared notes with.

My profile in Adapt Sound is vastly different than my hubby's, as he misses higher tones.
He also has a terrible time trying to use my AT Pro.
I think it is definitely related. He is saving up for a detector that allows more adaptability on setting the tones so you can hear them. Maybe we need a detector with an Adapt Sound like functionality? lol

So, in addition to needing a detector that finds metal, we need one that works for our own physical (and psychological) needs. You need whatever makes you happy! It may not be what makes the next guy happy, but that is OK. It DOES NOT necessarily make one better than the next - only better for you or him.

Many of THE BEST detectorists I have met have machines that they STICK WITH and learn inside and out, and that is why they are successful. Find a machine you like and learn it, by using it as much as you can in as many different conditions as you can. That is what I am trying to do and I can see myself improving all the time.

Just my two cents. I CANNOT know what is best for any of you. I can only know what is best for me.

I don't know what's funnier, the things Pennypacker says about the ATP or the way it gets people riled up.

I know, eh? Considering the OP gave up on this thread awhile ago and sold his AT Pro.... Why is this still alive?

You have me all wrong MD. I have not given up on this thread. I am just sitting back watching some of the bickering going on about who has the best machine. And who obviously has enough money to have multiple high dollar machines to compare their field data. I started with the Ace 150(gift) and went to the PRO. And I haven't considered giving up on it. I know it well but I still have plenty of room to learn it. I never thought this thread would get this argumentative about brands but I guess that comes with the territory like a Chevy/Ford/Dodge argument. My only intention of this post is why are my number readings so deceiving? And there are quite a few posts on here that I have read numerous times because of the relevance of the original question and I am taking those tips and suggestions to heart. As far as me destroying the pro, when I get back to that iron field that I cannot break through, I'm sure I will have the same conclusion. But put me in someones yard, and I will be glad that I made that choice to keep it.
