The weather finally decided to give us a break so my wife and I went out to a school we've never hit. We weren't having a lot of luck by the tot lot so we decided to move over by the soccer field. 5 minutes into digging by the field I got a solid 13 on the Vanquish 540. Thinking I was about to pull a nickel out of the plug, I saw the rim of a ring. Didn't want to get my hopes up yet so I pulled the plug apart and sure enough, it's a ring! I saw the rose sticking up and the detail was way to nice for a junk ring. The color was perfect! Cleaned off the dirt and there it was. 10k!!! 5 minutes later my wife popped a Tungsten ring which fits me perfectly haha. Left the school with almost $2.00 in clad and some gold! Not bad for an hour hunt! Anxious to get out and clean that spot out!!

Very nice score! Happy that your Gold Dreams for this year are starting out really well, keep at it!
Thank you! I've made a resolution this year to dig as many low tones and pull tabs as possible. This one tho was easy enough to talk myself into since I thought it was a nickel. Hopefully there's more out there! I'm gonna try to get back out there at least one more time before Tuesday brings more snow.

While I do chase silver, I do stumble across a gold ring once or sometimes twice each year, all by accident as the ones I have found rang up like a nickel.

That's it. Both times I've gotten gold, it was exactly like a nickel. The hard ones are going to be the "foil" signals that bigger chunky gold likes to ring up as.

Nice job. Question for you : In order to get a gold ring in a school yard, what would you say your ratio of junk (aluminum) to the eventual gold ring was ?

Today was a rare exception, I dug up about 7 bad targets, I switched spots and my second target in the new area was a gold ring. Generally speaking tho, it's easily 100:1. Nickels are a nice surprise most of the time when you think you're digging up yet another pull tab. It really is a matter of digging every possible signal to find gold in a school yard. I was lucky today.
*side note*
The neighborhood we were at today is a very very well off neighborhood, sterling silver is a dime a dozen in some of these areas. Not surprising some little kid lost their gold ring.

Very Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!

You're lucky you've got a wife with the same metal detecting fervor as you do! My GF likes metal detecting, my shiny finds, not the effort in finding them.

Lol, yeah. My wife and I got into the hobby together a few years ago. She tends to dig everywhere that beeps and I'm more selective lol. She always winds up with the interesting find of the trip tho.
