What do you think of this Excalibur?
Someone offers it to me for $400 but I have doubts since it is the first version of the Excalibur. According to what the seller tells me, it is manufactured or retouched in Sweden but the information is scarce or non-existent on the web. As you can see in the photo, it is barely used. What do you think?

Its the Excal Sword that Gary Storm made... just make sure their are no cracks in the cables... if so they will need to be repaired...

The earliest incarnations of the Excal were every bit as good as any subsequent incarnation. And that "horseshoe" coil was popular. That's a good machine *if* you like the Excalibur line. I say "if" because some people (myself included) didn't care for the long annoying bbbeeeooonnngggg sounds.

If you've never detected before, then perhaps this won't bother you. But if you're moving from various other machines, then this new freaky tones can be annoying. After awhile, you get used to it. But it can be very annoying at first.

That looks nice , but looks are deceiving, parts hard to find , OBN can perform surgery on them , I had one but didn't care for the coil , BBS coils on the Blue's were much better , the seals & coil I would get replaced , unless you want to buy it for an antique museum reasons , your treasure pile with that on top :workforgold: PS Captain Silver still runs the Sword model !

I think I'll let it go and continue using the Fisher cz20, because I know that if the Excalibur needs repair, the missing components could be a problem and Minelab could refuse to repair it or overcharge you. I have never owned a Minelab but I know that the cost of its repairs is an invitation to buy a new machine.
Thanks for those tips that are worth GOLD..

Me ..I would make him a offer of 350.oo ...Clean machine, I would say if you got it only thing I would check would be the O-rings. And they are under the knobs. As far as repairs, most parts from the new excaliburs will work with it. My friend Carter Pennington still uses his diving, I did a few upgrades to it and it can compete with the best of them. If you take the battery off and flip the machine over there is a number written, or a plastic label with the Production number. I'm guessing that one is in the 2000's. Only thing I never liked about that model was the coil, and its because of the size..8 inches.

Have you ever sent your CZ to Fisher for repairs?

What that cost you Felix , $850 ?😅
Probably... maybe more...He should pay his bills with Felix pennies... then maybe Fisher will reduce the prices on repairs... then again they are still trying to sell that other wonder machine... I never liked the CZ 20 series... they loved iron...

Well for one thing the blade is way too dull, and with what is on the end, you'll never pull it out of a stone. J/K the machine looks good to me. Seems to be a quality build.

Excals are EXCELLENT machines. I ran the CZ21 for a couple of years, but never really connected with it. Ran the Sovereign GT with the WOT coil and Excals (in the rain) for about seven years and just loved them. If not for the CTX, they would still be my go-to machine. I still have the SovWOT. Ask to take it for a test drive for a week and then, if you like it, do as OBN suggested and offer $350.

Are you wanting to dive with it or just wading?

I've been kicking tires on Excalibur II. Are they going to update it anytime soon? I'm a bit leery about the vintage of the tech.
Tech that has been proven reliable over and over for years? People complain about leaky Noxes and that flimsy cable for the Deus is ridiculous. I'll give up the "reputed" 1-2 inches either of those detectors may give you over an Excal. When I go into the water with an Excal I trust it 100%. When I had a CZ21 I could neither trust that battery compartment's seal nor its ability to hit on small gold. I don't care for the digital displays either - they take away from enjoying the sights. ;)

The Excal Blues are the way to go if you get an Excal... the new lime green with the thin line coil just doesn't cut it... If you find a blue... have it modified with PP switch and ability to change coils and headphones... mine all done as are many others on forum... they are deeper than a lot of the new technology used these days especially in the water...

I went from a CTX, to an Excal, to a NOX800..Sold the highly modded excal (like an idiot), and the 800. I bought the 800 thinking it was the newest and best tech. It's light for sure. Flimsy, very flimsy.. Sold it.. The CTX is to heavy.. SO I recently bought a very very mint Excal 1000 blue off eBay, building it back to the way my last one was... There is absolutely nothing wrong with the excal. For the beach esp if you actually get in the water is THE ONLY WAY TO GO.
