I am still learning on which settings provide the best pics, but this proved difficult because of the size/shape. I tried to give details in the picture, but please ask if you are interested in something else about it that may help identify it. The only thing I didn't include in the pictures is that the very end of the shaft (small, triangular end) has a slight bend. I can not tell if it was meant to be straight or if the bend is by design.

Any help from the experts would be appreciated!;)

That was a guess my wife came up with too, we tried a quick search and everything seemed quite a bit larger. We will keep looking for matches.

Thanks for your quick response!!!!!

Although I would love to have it be a bayonet, I think it is in fact a lightning rod tip. I found an antique lightning rod tip on ebay that looked nearly identical.

Thanks for everyone's input and ideas.

It is not a lightning rod tip. A lightning rod tip would not have those rings on the outside and it would set flush with the top of the rod. I know this, because I collect them and I have never saw one like it. I do think that it is a bayonet.

Nice find!

Bayonet?

I DON'T THINK BAYONETS ARE MADE OF BRASS?OR COPPER?BAYONETS I'VE SEEN ARE MADE OF STEEL .COULD IT BE SOME KIND OF SPEAR HEAD USED FOR FISHING OR SOMETHING?MY GUESS IS LEANING TOWARDS THE FIREPLACE POKER HEAD.THAT'S MY 2 CENTS:lol:

The bends in it look like some of the tools that I have used to pry things with. The internal threads hint that it may have screwed onto a handle, which came with a set of different attachments, for what, who knows. My guess is possibly plumbing. A sort of reaming/cleanout tool, or possibly to align cast iron radiator sections? Was it in a field, yard? Location may give a clue.

Well, it is not a Mosin-Nagant bayonet as dutchroot suggested. Those "rat tail" bayonets are common here in Finland, I have one and my weapon collector friends have plenty of those in their collections.

However I got these pics from ebay..the seller was selling a 'lighting rod finial'..looks pretty similar. however I do admit that those outside rings are bit odd

Ok, here's my gander since no one has suggested it yet......The finial to a flag. Maybe an antique flag that someone hung on the side of their house had hat as a tip, other than that I'm stymied!!!:?: HH
