Found this yesterday. It rang up as a 6 on the Equinox. If it had been 10k or 14k gold it should have been 13 or higher. It has no markings and is not magnetic. It is not silver and does not appear to be plated as no rub off spots. Someone told me Platinum will ring up low but I have no experience with that metal. What would platinum ring up as?
It is gold colored except on the outer flat spots where it is more of a silvery color. Any guess?

You can test with a powerful magnet to see if it's stainless. Tungsten is hefty feeling compared to stainless. I'd often set rings on their edge, then place a strong magnet closer and closer to the ring to see if I can get it to pull towards the magnet...

Plat for that type of ring I would expect to be 11 or so, though size is hard to determine and plays into it.

It's really tough to go by VDI numbers to assume a targets composition. For example, I've dug gold rings that came up as high as a copper penny. IMO, it looks like tungsten or stainless, but I would not rule out gold. Nice find!
