Online metal detecting course? Are you serious, NuggetNoggin?

Its amazing some of these threads... must be boredom... we have rules here and they are being broken in this thread...

Discussions of politics and religion inevitably lead to arguments, so they are best left to other political and religious forums on the web.

- When threads/posts become offensive or get reported, we will close them, or remove/edit the offending comments, and possibly delete the entire thread if necessary.

This conversation about ones religion or for that matter this guy you are talking about ends...

Find another topic.

Thank you for the reminders you guys post. Sometimes I get overly wound up on these threads. Politics and Religion shouldn't be discussed on a friendly forum. And I would personally like to apologize if I offended anyone here. That was not my intent.
THE KOB.

I didn't start this thread due to boredom. I thought it was a valid subject for discussion.

We left the thread alone but as soon as religion was brought into the discussion that is when we will enforce our rules...

Interesting response. I had the same thing going on with the NOX. A couple guys bought the Nox before me. I was hoping after 6 months they would figure it out and teach me about the machine before I bought mine. They were so-so hunters and found a few pieces of gold on the beach. So I buy mine. Read all about it here and watching videos. To me , it was like using my brain to detect the detector itself , learning the machine and a lot of tinkering and adjustments.

In short , I quickly blew these guys out of the water. They were coming to me asking why I'm finding so much and my settings. I wasn't exactly happy with this because initially I was hoping it would have been the other way around. They didn't do much better after I showed them my advanced settings and went back to their turn-on-and-go method. I think some have it and some don't. Not all are cut out to be a solid metal detectorist.

You are right you have to use your brain to use the 800. I thought I knew a lot about detecting since I had been detecting off and on since the late 80's. After a month or so I figured out it was not enough to think you know enough abut metal detecting to get the most out of the 800. You have to really know your stuff. Videos did not help me too much since all you got from the videos was maybe some guy's settings. With the help of a few very good MD forum members who really know their stuff about metal detecting and Clive's Clynick's book on the Equinox.

I found I really needed to understand each adjustment on the 800 and really know what it was for and the reason behind that adjustment and how and when to use each. I started out just copying other's settings and that did not work because every place we hunt is different and with the 800 even being slightly off in some of your different settings you are hunting with a de-tuned detector and can miss a lot of good stuff.

So staying in the proper mode and just noise canceling and ground balancing is you best bet until you really know the 800. But copying other's setting is the worst think you can do when hunting with the 800. Unless you are hunting the exact same piece of land together with someone with an 800 and you copy exactly that person's 800 setting. But that would in my opinion defeat the purpose of a hobby. For me with any hobby I just want to learn and get better at the hobby. Imagine play in a foursome with Tiger and just copy his club selection and see how far that gets you.

When I went to the Texas Treasure show no one cared about him. He didn't bring any finds. Just selling tshirts.

Lmfao on the $2k value. Seeing his finds collection is a $200 value, maybe that's why he didn't bring them.

Get that money nog.

Here you go! For a paltry $197, you can get $2,000 worth of valuable information on how to metal detect! I think I'll pass on this "deal"...

I understand why you started this thread... I myself think he is not a pro...

If someone wishes to learn how to detect I would send them to Tom over at Dankowski's

http://dankowskidetectors.com/

Scroll down towards the bottom and you can see what he offers and his rates...

No way NN has the knowledge of Tom...

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he'd better be really nice to me if I pay him $300 for his "metal detecting seminar"! Wow!

Looks like it's in-person? I'm surprised he's doing that with the coronavirus and all that.

Yes, this link is for an “in-person” event, which appears to be a different experience from the on-line course that Nugget Noggin is also offering. At the top of the page that the link takes you to, it does say that the in-person event has been postponed due to the virus, and will be rescheduled at an unknown later date.

The in-person event in this link raises a red flag with me - I believe it has a strong chance of being a Garrett advertisement event in disguise. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Nugget Noggin is currently connected with/sponsored by Garrett, yes? The description of the “Basic Package” says “Bring your own Metal Detector (Preferably Garrett Brand) and Gear to the event”, and the “Pro Package” bundles a plethora of Garrett equipment including an AT Pro and Propointer into the cost of admission. Clearly the event will be Garrett-centric. I have nothing against Garrett (I currently use and love two Garrett pinpointers, I’ve owned two Garrett machines in the past, and hope to own another in the future if they release a machine with the features and performance I want). And I have nothing against Nugget Noggin’s association with Garrett. But if I were interested in paying for a live metal detecting instructional seminar (I’m not), I’d be skeptical in this case that I would actually be paying to be advertised to. Don’t get me wrong - in person, brand/model specific training can be very helpful to someone who wants/needs it to get more out of their particular machine. In this case, it would seem more truthful in my opinion to call it “NUGGET NOGGIN LIVE - Metal Detecting Seminar and Training Hunt for Garrett Machines”.

Just to make sure I understand your point: you have no problem with how he's pushing Garrett products for his event, but you think he should just be more transparent about how this is basically a chance for Garrett to push its products?

At the live event, it’s an extra $300 to have dinner with him? Wow!

Man, I wouldn't even pay $300 to have dinner with Diggin Britt. Well, maybe I would...

Britt would be making THE KOB dinner. Then she would pay THE KOB $300 for the privilege of having dessert with him !

Why is it that every YouTube metal detectorist now feels the need to make a buck off of their "fame"? Got an email from Nugget Noggin today promoting his new online metal detecting course! Are you serious? How on earth can you teach someone to metal detect online? Can't wait to see how much he's going to charge for his wisdom and knowledge of this hobby.

Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but he's not an expert by any means. I've watched dozens of his videos and never saw him find anything significant. Seems kind of arrogant to be charging for his "expert" knowledge of this hobby. Just my take on it...

He seems to find lots of marbles. And I agree, when I watched the 5th or 6th video and he hadn't found anything interesting, I lost interest.

I'd rather watch a compilation of good finds, that someone walking around talking about what they might find. If I wanted to do that, I'd watch Oak Island (which I don't).

Interesting range of views and what strikes me is how different we are in what we want to watch...

I don't watch many YouTube detecting videos these days as there are very few I like.

With regards the Brit channels, there are quite a few hosted by people who I just can't take to and would only watch to see them get run over...

There are others that only ever seem to find truly amazing finds and do so week in and week out. Add to that their obvious over reaction when they uncover their finds along with what I would term thier over acting in general. Add to that I never watch a video that has "OMG" or any other over sensationalion in the title....

With regards the American detecting channels, I watch few of these either, as I simply don't relate or find them interesting. The exception to that is that I do enjoy some of the gold prospecting channels and they often touch on metal detecting...

The only MD channel I seem to enjoy consistently is TerraGermania..

I like the way he shoots and produces the videos and they usually contain more than just a series of clod shots unlike so many other channels of and I like the fact he normally touches on the history of the area where he is digging...

That said, the videos are often very slow paced which will not be to everybodies taste although I don't mind that at all.

I would add that the host Hans comes across as a very humble guy without a brash bone in his body which is a nice contrast to many of the other YouTubers who are obviously superstars in thier own minds....
