Manticore and Xterra Pro coils.

Got this email today from a Online site with some prices for the Manticore coils. They are showing a little higher than I thought they would be but what can you do?

I saw a once used Legend being offered for $350 this week. Manticore coil money can buy you a pretty dang good detector these days...

I'm going to buy the M8 as soon as I see them in stock. I need that one. Just going to bend over and take it.

And don't forget to order than extra lower "shaft" too! Which, BTW, I'm planning to buy a @steveg lower rod for the M8. He'll probably have his out first anyway, but I'll wait for his if I have to. No big deal after the wait Minelab has created for the coil.

There's places I'd really like to play with the M15. Additional coverage would certainly be welcome at times. But at that price... I'd feel like I owed my Wife a nice dinner or something after spending that much on a "fun to have" - COIL. Maybe in a year if I see a used one to pick off at a discount.

I can't wait to get the M15, after hunting my honey hole for 4 months now I am looking forward to seeing if I find any targets that may have been out of reach for the 11" stock coil. Seller I bought my Manticore from they may be shipping very soon, possibly in the next week.

I wouldn't expect more than a very small amount of depth and then only in some conditions from the M15 vs the M11. That coil is for coverage. I bet depth gains over the M11 are miniscule.

I wrote to ML to see what they had to say a few weeks back:

Thank you for contacting Minelab Customer Care.

The Minelab MANTICORE comes standard with the M11 Coil. Minelab has plans to release additional accessory coils in the near future.
The additional accessory coils are the following sizes:
  • M8 (8"x5.5")
  • M15 (15"x12")
We are anticipating a September/October timeframe for when accessory items will begin shipping to Minelab Dealers across North America. That is a tentative timeframe and apologies that we cannot provide a more exact ETA at this time.

M-15 wanting now , but not buying from any dealers with an accessory- pay up front 1st. , than go on a list , bad enough they did this with machines , so as soon as a dealer , non list per say- has them in stock , I am ready to buy ! Its November , the coil's are still A NO SHOW

Well they better be good coils. Got my manticore a few weeks back. Did some testing and turns out I got a bad coil.

Reached out to ML and they sent me a return label. Once my bad coil arrives they'll ship a new M11 out.

I put a thread on the beach forum on this 7k hit's , I got my Manticore Jan. , 11 1/2 months later no accessory coil's , My Equinox 800 now sold , it was 6 months getting the accessory coil's out , ML sure dropped the ball !

Yeah I saw that. No matter, for me any way. I tried the Xterra, wasn't impressed. Not going to waste more money on different coils. And the Manticore I have little to no interest in anymore. Mark

Mark , what do you compare the Exterra to ? As to someone asking for advice- like a newbee , I own top end machines , so I wouldn't know, but would like to know how good that low end machine is, for someone who has had the machine , I would bet that the machine was just to compete for the LOW end market , Earl

Earl good evening. I believe you are correct. Minelab put it out there to compete with the Simplex. And as far what I would compare it to, "ya got me" In all fairness I have been using Equinox's since early 18. But do remember when I used the the AT Pro I didn't dig anywhere near as much non-ferrous trash as I did with my limited experience with the Xterra Pro. There is a guy over on DP that has found a boatload of gold with it. He is a water hunter over around Spain somewhere. He's trying to hit 2oz. by years end. God bless him. And I've read other good reports as well, its the reason I wanted to give it a try. Not to mention the price was right at the time. Eh, just not for me. I guess I'm spoiled with SMF. If a newbie were to ask my advice, I would tell him to check out the Vanquish if he wouldn't be water hunting and if he was I would recommend looking at the units from Nokta. Good luck. Mark

And mine should be here tomorrow. Still don't have the coils though . I'll swap out my factory lower for yours for the 11" though.
