Hi all, I’m very interested in picking up a metal detector and I’ve had my eyes set on 2 different ones.

I would be searching for gold/silver/relics (coins & such). I’ll be searching around the desert where I live and maybe up north in the higher mountains area. (AZ)

The 2 options I could pick up is either:

1. Garrett ATX Deepseeker for around $600

Or

2. Equinox 900 for around $500

What would be suited for my application of use?, thank you all who respond.

I would choose the eq900 personally. I like mine.

I think that atx is a pi unit.

So you are going to find everything in the ground and I mean everything.....not only the iron but little pieces of iron too. It will drive you bonkers.

The equinox has a nice display and if you just take your time your going to enjoy it.

Great display and easy to navigate.

If you can snag that equinox for that price as it is a great deal.

Get on youtube and watch some videos on it.

download the manual and read it.

It is a great price and also a good unit.

Good luck!!

So someone you know is selling a used Garrett ATX Deepseeker for $600 (weighs close to 7 pounds by the way). That is a $2800 detector brand new and a killer deal. Just make sure it comes with a really good harness or you will ruin your shoulders.

Someone else is selling a used Equinox 900 for around $500. Really. That is the second best deal of the century considering it is an $1100 detector.

If you are brand new to detecting, both of those detectors technologically and performance wise will be a handful.

I'd just stick to buying and selling detectors if I could find deals like that.
Rofl, they are listed on FB Market in my area, the nox is still NIB with factory seal and the Garrett looks to be in very good condition.

Thanks everyone else as well with input, I think I’ll snag the Nox 900 then. I have a ton of iron in the ground around my property & this would be my first metal detector so I feel the screen will help me a lot more in my situation.

I don't think I'd be sending them my credit card information. The strange thing is a first post from someone that has been looking into new detectors and I would assume looked up the new prices of said detectors and doesn't see something wrong with such discounted detectors. But yeah I could see a scammer coming here and posting something like that to try to lure un unsuspecting new detectorist to facebook marketplace to make the purchase. I will explain my reasoning for saying that........Because you made clear where everyone could go to buy them out from under you, which no one would do......AND you have settled on snagging ONE not BOTH detectors. As the saying goes...I was born at night but it wasn't LAST night.:nono:

I agree, unless you could meet face to face in a public place I cannot see sending payment for something you cannot hold and rest first.

There was a place here last week where someone got robbed and stabbed in a deal like this. I know it happens in many places but this happened in a place it never happens AND in broad daylight. I'll stick with the ole...."If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is". And for me it's not even my own safety I worry about. This state is notorious for convicting people for self defense. Saving a few bucks on a metal detector isn't worth the hassle when it sounds fishy from the start.

All I will say is you better ask for serial numbers on both those detectors before just laying your hard earned cash out and check those serial numbers with the manufacturers, if those are legit i would be all over both in a heart beat as jmaclen pointed out those if legit would be deals of the century

I also am in Arizona

I had someone offer me a GP3500 not to long ago for $500 cash looked like a brand new Detector I took photos of it and the serial number when I checked the serial number with mine Lab it cam back stolen I contacted the police but had no contact for the perrson that tried to sell me a stolen minelab PI detector so buyer beware and do your due diligence
