Giles Richards Military Button

Found a Giles Richards military (?) button today....internet says it was made in 1812.....reverse side has an American Eagle on it.....does anyone know any history of this button? Looks gilt......thanks....

"On the back of the button is the name Giles Richards, who was a button-maker in Cincinnati, OH, and who contracted to make buttons and other metal devices for U.S. Army uniforms during the War of 1812."
