So I can no longer mountain bike due to back injuries so doctor recommended walking on beach. I live very close to st Augustine. I metal detected back in the day but technology changed a lot since then. I am looking at the nokta legend or x terra elite. I need something that I can submerge partially. I think the legend is a bit more than the elite.

Welcome from Michigan! I sold my first detector AT Pro and bought a legend and couldn't be happier. It's been a simple transition and although I don't know it inside out, I feel that I don't miss much where I hunt. Bought a second legend from Cherry Picker earlier this year with all of the coils so I've been able to test each of the coils. Fun detector and affordable. Lots of folks here with advice and experience.

Others will chime in with their opinion, let us know what you settle down with.

LOL ...I go back and forth between the Legend and the Nox 900. I use and like them both after the latest updates . the 900 got a slight edge in the test garden but the Legend is likely to catch up with the upcoming update . Both have good and bad points but for the money the legend can't be beat! I am seriously happy with both.

What Mark said. I just traded my E-Trac in for a Legend on the advice of Mark, and I couldn't be happier. Great machine, very light, and not hard to learn. Good luck.

What coils have you got with it Hoser, and do you have a preference?

Thanks everyone. I am not seeing much feedback on the xterra elite. Anyone ever try it?

From what I gather, it's a simplified Nox, in the same way the Score series are simplified Legends.

I saw where both Iffy Signals and Calabash both prefer the Triple Score over the legend, do to it’s simplicity and it appears to go deeper 😊

The Score series are simplified Legends, so the performance should be virtually identical. However, Nokta came out with a Score update that Iffy and Cala have. The update increased the depth slightly and/or increased TID acurracy at depth. I'm under the impression that same update is coming for the Legend.

The Triple is less complex than the Legend, but I certainly wouldn't use that as a reason to choose one over another. The Legend has Ferrocheck, the Score series does not. To me, Ferrocheck and similar type features on other detectors, are an excellent tool to help identify certain targets.

Where did you mountain bike around st. Augustine?

I got the stock coil and the 6" coil. sorry to say I haven't tried the six inch yet. but I do have several very trashy spots I have pulled silver out of to try.

I just bought one but haven't assembled or tested it yet, but there's some good test videos on YouTube, just search for X-Terra Elite and you find a bunch. I've been running a Minelab Sovereign Elite with a 12x10 SEF Butterfly coil for over 10 years. The X-Terra Elite comes with a 12" elliptical coil, so I can't wait to do some initial air tests between my old BBS Sovereign and the new Multi-IQ X-Terra Elite. BTW, the Sovereign was SMF decades before the X-Terra Elite and the Equinox's. The BBS Sovereign's transmit 17 frequencies simultaneously, not sure how many frequencies the X-Terra Elite or the Equinox's run at the same time.

Had already read all of the comments and surprised a little.
You told us a story about your health, especially about your back... And the next discussion legend/nox/exterra
I don't know anything about ergonomic of exterra, but I'm sure legend and nox wouldn't help you with your back, so it's the way to change hobby one more time.
My opinion is deus 2 Master. It's not so expensive, but you may tired of shovel, but not of the deus.
If your ground is not mineralized or water is fresh - deus 1 is OK

I agree with what everyone said about the Legend. Never owned one but I have read many good reviews about it. About the other ones. 800, 900, Manticore, XP Deus2. Long learning curve on those who have not used an advanced SMF detector and as you know they don't come cheap.

I was on same mission decided on elite exp pack because i already had 900 nox and menu was similar and compatible accessories.. its actually more stable in the water than my 900. You’ll get more reviews on legend also due to Time release. Elite hasn’t been out a year yet. Either way off your coast. They will pay for them selves in no time. Never used legend. Would hate to say elite is better but we have no complaints and it has also paid for itself less than 4-5 months.

I have a hunch/theory, I'm in the process of trying to prove, but for now, it's just a hunch, but I think the NOX 900, 700, X-Terra Elite and X-Terra Pro are all the same detector electronically/internally. I think they designed the NOX 900 first, since that one has the most features of the 4. Then, they could make the others simply by programming the software/firmware to limit certain features. They all can share the same coils, which tells me they're the same electronically, they all have the same layout & design, and if you check the specs, the majority of their specs are almost identical, except for the minor differences in the features. If my hunch is correct, then the X-Terra Elite should be able to detect just as deep as the NOX 900.

But they cant share coils. 900 coils will work on elite but not other way around .. yes they both as capable. One menu is simplified and some settings condensed

Correct, I should have said that the Elite can use any of the NOX coils. I'm hoping they can also use the CoilTek coils for the NOX's as that 10x5 is calling my name.
