Good afternoon everyone. I'm attempting to get my gf hooked on m/d 🙃 and would like to surprise her with her own.
I currently use my dad's old White's Coinmaster 6000, for those unfamiliar it has an analog meter that is very user friendly. This machine however, is from the 80's lol but it's a beast.
My question is, are there any detectors on the market today that use a similar display? If so what would be some models you would recommend for a beginner?

Paul

Well the Whites XL pro is the last analog machine on the market. If it works for you , by all means go for it. This is a hobby, not a competition of who's detector is better. If, what you have works for you and you are enjoying it, then why change. I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack from this so bring it on.

Unless garrett reissued the xl pro those puppies are long gone.

Yes they had a great meter too for their time but they cannot pick out a coin next to iron.

The Bounty Hunter Prospector, and similar models use an analog needle display - which to me was always mostly useless. I moved to a Tesoro Compadre - no needle/display and did rather well with it. Then I bought a Nox 800....

There are some non-display detectors out there, but honestly I'd just go with a newer digital ID machine at this point. Nokta, Minelab etc. Look first towards the sponsors of this website.... good luck and happy hunting.

Like most other costly hobbies my opinion is buy once, cry once. If you think she will really get into it and you guys are both into it skip the true "beginners" models. I started with an ATPRO and went into a NOX800; my gf swings the ATPRO now. You can even be a beginner on a NOX800, but once you get some time in you can be "advanced" enough to figure out better settings. Cheaper plastics, less features, less quality of the low-end stuff aside you can always grow into a better model over time and you'll always outgrow the cheap one.

The Minelab Vanquish is very user-friendly and easy to learn. Also has a nice light weight to it as well. I originally bought our 440 for my wife, she didn't get hooked on the hobby, but the machine is a joy to use. I can't recommend it enough.

Best entry level detector out there.

I agree with Steve and Bioheat1969. The Vanquish 440 is really a fantastic beginner detector with enough features to keep even advanced metal detector users happy.

It has two target ID displays. One displays numbers for target ID. The other one just above it is a linear target ID bin display with a target probability visual aid just above it which corresponds to common USA targets very well.

It eats AA batteries big time. It also does not like moderate to high iron mineralization.

Great lightweight shaft system, 10" coil, easy to read display, very accurate non-ferrous target IDs, easy to distinguish, pleasant 3 tone audio, great on saltwater dry and wet beaches, deep and a really fun, inexpensive detector for anybody including a newbie girlfriend.
