Counterfeit coin ??

First time posting I have been reading stuff on here for little over a year. So I found this a few days ago and I think it’s fake just looking for some information if anyone knows

What makes you think its fake? It's got a nice patina on it. Looks good to me. Where did you get/find it?

The date and I found it on a small bench

I've got a small bench too. Looks like its roman and you have very clean fingerprints. Location is everything.

And the copper at the top you can just make out victory all this I found in the same place. The dimes are newer and pretty smoked.

It is counterfeit. No British halfpennies were minted in 1778.

I believe that is a machin mills copper, which yes is a counterfeit but a rare one for sure. I was able to find one a few years back. https://www.novanumismatics.com/americas-machins-mills-contemporary-counterfeit-halfpence/

Thank you guys for the information I have been told by a few people now it is a machin’s mills coin so it’s a 1700s coin but newer than the date stamp on it. So now that I have joined the forum I will start posting pictures of my finds. Thanks again

Counterfeit or not it’s a old find. That’s high on my bucket list to find a machin mills coin.

Nice. I found a 1775 KG III I thought might be a Machin Mills counterfeit but its the real deal. I do need one for my collection.

Very cool indeed. I've never had, or for that matter seen a counterfeit coin. It would be kinda cool to start a collection. Good going.

I take that back. I have seen a counterfeit coin before. And once I got the gold foil off, the chocolate wasn't all that bad.

That's a King George III and I've found a few with the edge worn down just like that.
