Found at old homesite in Missouri. Any idea as to age. Is it a civil war naval button? Site age would support it as we found a shield nickel and a 1860 campaign button there. It's cuff button size.

I may be wrong, but I think what you have is a fashion button. If the back is rusted that it is for sure a fashion button.

There was a lot of variations through time.

One of the most copied buttons I know of with many different variations. Back is most likely rusted out. As Duggap said, a fashion/blazer button.
