2 Equipment problems, No good answers!

I mean it sounds like you have kind of made up your mind but to give an analogy.

You buy a new vehicle vs one in the 70's, both will get you where you want to go but that newer one is most likely going to give you a more comfortable ride. There is not a magic detector that is going to pull the jewelry out of the ground for you. The best they can do is take an educated guess on what something might be, but again there are so many variables here: size, composition temp, humidity etc etc.

The more you learn your machine and its nuances the better you will be able to understand what could be under the coil. Newer tech will make it easier in the form or weight, speed and features.

I have never used a test garden since I started detecting in the early 80's. I never had tge patiance for it. Every detector I has , I just turned it on and learned how to adjust it as I went. Not saying it's the right way, but it's how I do it.

I would enjoy a new detector & trying to figure it out but:

The nicer ones are near $1500

Besides that slide on over to Youtube & punch in your favorite detectors description and watch the various junk that is dug up with these high price detectors.

In other news:
I went detecting a few days ago & discovered wet roots after rain set of my Tesoro.

Last but certainly not least:
Watch out for poison oak, ivy, & sumac. Those vines on the ground that prevents you from digging should not be cut with loppers!
