I mean it sounds like you have kind of made up your mind but to give an analogy.
You buy a new vehicle vs one in the 70's, both will get you where you want to go but that newer one is most likely going to give you a more comfortable ride. There is not a magic detector that is going to pull the jewelry out of the ground for you. The best they can do is take an educated guess on what something might be, but again there are so many variables here: size, composition temp, humidity etc etc.
The more you learn your machine and its nuances the better you will be able to understand what could be under the coil. Newer tech will make it easier in the form or weight, speed and features.
