Well, this year hasn't been super plentiful for me, but finally I managed a super sweet coin. I actually did have a bucketlist made up a few years ago and I thought the story of the design change was so cool that I had placed this coin as number 2 on my list.
Anyway, I had a permission I was super excited about on Friday, but it was a huge waste of my day, yielding only a buffalo and a wheat. To try to salvage the day , out of desperation I shot back over to the tiny park where I had dug the two smooth Barber dimes last week. Not a whole lot left there ....I made my way over to the curb strip where the grass actually looked newer , like maybe the village may have put in some type of buried lines of some sort and covered with new grass.....Anyway I gat a screamin quarter signal at like 2 inches ....I stuck my shovel in the dirt pretty non-shallontly and stuck my finger in the dirt and flipped out a silvery coin and couldn't believe it. I was pretty much thinking it was gonna be the usual smooth dateless stander, and started calmly walking over to my detecting buddy Al. We looked at it in disbelief and saw the early date and was stoked ....then thought about the possibility of it being a type 1 ....I flipped it over and saw stars that didn't look right to me and now I'm getting pretty excited. We walked to the truck and got some water on it and got a few pictures.....
I've been losing my sight a little bit now as I'm getting to be in that age
So I , or my buddy could not see a mint mark on it......Two daays later as I am editing the pictures I noticed something tiny that to me looks like an S ...I'm still not exactly sure .....Is it ????
I've only cleaned this thing just a tiny bit with water and a QTip....I don't wanna risk hurting this one......Not sure how to get it looking a bit better..
I've dug a dozen or so standers in my career and most are pretty smooth , but I've been lucky enough to have found a beautiful 18 and a beautiful 19 , and now a pretty darn nice 17.....Can't wait to see what's next.....
