Question on digging shovels ?

When I use one, I really like my 28" Root Slayer. A longer one would make prying up hard dirt a bit easier, but being so small, I can wear it on my side and it doesn't look so menacing to onlookers.

Terry,
Can you tell me what the diameter is on the shaft? Curious to know if one of my Hipclips would fit it. Also, you said its 28" long. The mini Root Slayer I found on Amazon says its 20" long. Same one? I'm trying to find a good light weight shovel that'll fit in the saddle bag of my HD Ultra.

Can you fit the Deus II in the saddle bags? Maybe this is a dumb question but, do you ride with a detector and shovel in case parts fall off your HD? I recently read about a guy that was working on a "Road" program for the Deus II for just that reason. I'll try to find the link for you.

Many opinions, and different shovels work for different people very dependent on conditions and depth wanted. I hunt deep old coins, nothing else. The Predator Barracuda is my tool of choice, will go through anything besides highly frozen ground, concrete and roots bigger than 1-1.5 inches. Incredible strength and durability. On the expensive end.
x2 Barracuda is an excellent shovel.

Yep, I have to separate the upper and lower shaft but my Deus 2 fits in my saddle bag.

Never had any issue with parts falling off of my Harley. Must be a Metric thing.

Thanks. I appreciate the pics. I might have to pick up one of those.

Root Slayer Perennial shovel. Cuts roots like they're not even there, light weight, fiberglass handle so if carry it handle forward it doesn't interfere with your coil, and long enough so you're not hunched over while digging.
