I went to the SF Bay area on Tuesday to meet a friend and make a new friend, and I had what I consider a fabulous day of hunting! I didn't find as much silver coinage as my peers (each finding some small foreign silvers in addition to several domestics), but I found some really interesting goodies!

My first good find was the Saint Christopher's medal. I thought it might be silver, because it came out of about 5" of soil looking clean, but the chain coming out looking like turf clad, and lack of marking, have me thinking that it's made of pewter. Still, it had me feelin pretty pumped! Not far from the medal, I found a ring! Unfortunately it's gold plated brass, but still a fun find. Mostly, at that location, I found clad and junk, but possibly a wheatie that I had missed at the time but discovered after cleaning up my coins a bit.

After a change in locations, more fun things were found! Two Mercs (1925 & 1935), three wheaties (for a total of 4 for the day: 1918S, 1942, 1945D, & 1945D), my first sterling poison pill ring (I thought it was an earring, at first, but recognized the hinge on the compartment), a 1947 aluminum 5 Francs, SF Mission Bay Golf Center token, peep show token, and a vintage Official Reporter S&W Junior News tin badge. Oh, and I found over $6 in modern change (two quarters and a dime not shown)! I didn't show the trash, but rest assured that I found more than my share of bottle caps and rusted flat steel with the Deus. Oh, and it hit on a deep 22 slug that had a lovely white patina to it. Gotta love the good old days of carnival games that used live rounds (I've found them at an old Sacramento amusement park location, too)!

Such a lovely and rewarding day out!

Jon, it was good to get out with you. Thanx for helping me to study your Deus some more on this effort. Sorry the parks were not brimming with easy silver and wheaties. That first one turned out to be more-lame than I remember it last. I struggled to get 10 wheaties and 5 silver there. And many of them were "cheating" and getting them in hard-pan ground under trees, doh !

Here's that foreign silver you alluded to : An 1888 Hong Kong silver coin (80%). Value : Nothing other than melt  I thought for a micro-second that I had a USA half-dime, haha. And then our mutual friend came right behind me to the same zone and got 2 similar half-dime sized silver foreign coins . As if someone spilled out of a coin-collection there.

At the 2nd location I had a dozen wheaties (dating back to the 1920s, all common), 2 mercs, and a silver roosie. Nothing to write home about, but fun to flex muscles.

Thanx again for helping me on my Deus research !!

Cheers, Tom. Happy to help!

Now about flexing those muscles... I'm still a little sore in places. LOTs of fun digging!
