What do you think of Gary on Oak Island?
My two cents on Gary Drayton-

First of all, here’s a quote from Gary Drayton.

“ I decided to search on the beach for the very first time on October 20, 2004. That was the day I dug my first signal out of the sand. It turned out to be a Spanish silver piece of eight.”

So Gary Drayton would lead us to believe that his VERY FIRST signal that he EVER got in dry sand was a Spanish real. He was brand new to the sport. He did not know anything about cuts or erosion, or anything like that, and he drops in on the sand and finds a real. Sorry but I’m not buying it.

I was hunting with a with a friend of mine after tropical storm or hurricane back around 2012 maybe. We had started in Sebastian and were heading south. We ran into Gary Drayton in Jupiter. He was headed north. The tide was coming in and the conditions sucked. The next day he posted how he had found a real up near Fort Pierce or Sebastian. There are many many very good metal detectors on the treasure Beaches. Nobody found a coin that day, except for Gary Drayton. At high tide when the conditions sucked. He’s like the Chuck Norris of metal detecting.

Then there’s the time when he was down in Broward painting a house on the beach and he spent 20 minutes in the water on his lunch break with his new mine lab. He found three gold chains in 20 minutes. This dude gets struck by lightning every time he goes hunting.

He has found endless one off, estate looking pieces. I don’t know anybody else that has done that. He claims to have found an American eagle in dry sand without a scratch on it. It looked like it just came from the mint.

What I think happened to Gary Drayton is, he got lucky when he found that emerald ring. It blew his ego up to the point where he had to fabricate finds to keep feeding his ego. In his mind, he has to constantly one up himself.

I've mentioned the last part in here before. When I started on OI I never knew who he was, then I happened to be watching an old History special on pirates and he was on it (well before OI) and he showed off that emerald claiming how he was an expert because he found that. Then later in the episode he's magnet fishing a mangrove line and pulls a clothing iron with part of an electrical cord sticking out claiming it was an colonial iron dropped off a ship or something.

I will give him credit that he sells his character and at least History has bitten off on it. I mean these shows would be a noticeable scam to everyone if they didn't have people to pretend to be experts who can speak on camera even if its nonsense. Having a paid actor at least keeps some people in the loop giving them ratings. Can't argue that he's one of the few "treasure hunters" who get rich not finding treasure. ...still cant stand him

I liked when he posted on his blog how he would seed spots in the water with buff nickels to throw other hunters off his spots... I think he took heat for that and pulled that story down if I remember correctly...

The best way to keep others off is just to not post where you hunt and not post your finds right away...

People have asked friends of mine where I hunted when I'm killing the gold, my friends replied if Craig wanted you to know he would tell you... true, I laughed when my friends said that... my friends knew because I trust them..

Craig has told me all of his spots. When I retire I'm going to drive up and steal all of his gold!

I hunted a spot with Captain Silver year ago, the spot was loaded with buffalo, V and Shield nickels... I still have them all I think in 1 hunt I pulled 7 shield nickels.. one day I will put them back in circulation like I have done in past... Bruce knew the history of the spot, I don't think either one of us found gold there but did find silver and old bottles half way out on the flats... my scoop wasn't every good trying to bring up bottles lol..

When I started MD my first couple of outings were on the beach as I was away on holiday.

When I returned home I asked a farmer friend if I could have a go on one of his fields..I walked onto the field and my first ever digable signal some 15 yards from the gate turned out to be silver hammered groat from the 1400's...This was a random field with no particular known history and not even a public footpath through it..Further, its in a part of the UK where hammered coins are far from common....I have searched that field dozens of times since and never found any other silver coins older than Victorian.

Sometimes these things happen...

Now I have no idea if GD plants finds or not, but I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt until somebody can prove otherwise...

I’m sure he’ll appreciate that. Enjoy Oak Island.

Not watched it this season as I simply got bored of them getting all excited about bits of wood and ox shoes..

I am trying to recall the metal detecting fella who was on Oak Island prior to GD? I wonder why he was replaced with GD?

Maybe the other guy wasn't a 16th degree Templar and didn't know the secret handshake. Thus could not have been the ONE to find the treasure. Or.....Lack thereof. I mean you need a bonafide self proclaimed EXPERT to uncover such an important treasure..Or Lack thereof. I am sure that given enough time this show will produce a treasure. As a matter of fact I'll even bet that there is a nice treasure sitting in the Lagina's bank accounts......... Because we know there isn't one on Oak Island other than the one they cash in on every week that people watch that crap. Same ole nothing...same old gimmick....same ole same ole NOTHING... and people love it. I'm not complaining though because it gives me something to laugh about.

Which, of course, does NOT mean "nothing" is there. It merely means : A little deeper. A little more to the right. A little more to the left. And so forth to infinity. But at NO time does it ever mean : Nothing.
