Man this thread grew cold quick. I figured there would be more info coming with more people out using the Impact. I should be getting mine Tuesday or Wednesday this coming week.
It seems self explanatory....

I thought that same thing about Bluetooth and asked someone here about it just the other day. He says the new Bluetooth units don't have this lag. I've personally not tried it, but I did find this video of someone doing a review of a $35 module and he says it doesn't lag:

If it doesn't work for me I still have my ole faithful Etrac! I was just ready to try something different Bibelot
I wasn't thinking that it wouldn't work. I was thinking that it was too early to tell since you haven't even got your machine yet. I seen two people looking in wanted sections for the Impact. I hope you get it soon so we can see more information about this machine .I'm split between wanting to try another machine but maybe I shouldn't be looking. I started metal detecting a year ago last April and have 5 machines. I hardly think that I should need another machine yet. I should just keep using the ones that I have or sell them and move on but that is the reason my small CTX coil is up for sale, to generate funds towards another machine because I 'm not wanting to part with any that I already have. It's an illness, thinking it's contagious......Wishing you many finds with your new machine when you get it.
That's a big arsenal for a years worth of detecting! I can't say much I would be the same way if my wife let me lol. I just assumed that you meant the Impact wasn't worth a !!!! when you said it's kind of self explanatory. Sorry if I misunderstood you.
In the 20 years I have been detecting i have found that this can be a real expensive hobby kinda like golf is to some people. I love it! I would really like to have a CTX, Deus and from what I've seen so far the Rutus Alter 71.
But having 3 young kids takes up a lot of money and i dont see rhat changing for another 17 years. The 2 older boys are really getting into metal detecting though so I might be able to get a couple more machines that i want and they can use when they are a little older lol
I appreciate the good wishes and I will definitely share my thoughts and experiences after having it for a while. I'm hoping for good results eith it. Most of my sites are minefields of nails and iron of all sizes and from what I have read the Impact seems to do well in those areas. Especially with the smaller coil.
I have a 6 inch coil I use on my Etrac and hardly ever take it off. It gets good depth and separates quite well. That's going to be my test for the Impact taking it to the sites I have pounded hard for the last many years and see what I can pull out of the ground.
Hopefully by Thursday I will be swinging it. I will keep you posted on what I find.
I'm looking forward to seeing your results with the impact in those sites you've gone over with your etrac. I just got into MD'ing last sept. with an F70. I think I'm finally starting to meld with it, but still learning some of the nuances of this machine. The thing with me is that I only have 5 or 6 regular places to hunt and although I haven't hunted those places out by any means, I have probably cherry picked them pretty well. Then I get on the forum here and read about how well the Deus does and then what someone found with his impact in a place he thought was cleared out and so on and so on. Then I start thinking that maybe a higher end detector would bring in some more finds for me. I'm gonna be patient though and give my F70 at least a full year before I seriously start looking at an upgrade. In the meantime I enjoy all these comparisons and reading about the new models that are coming out.

I got a message from Monte today stating that Nokta did build a small 5 1/2" coil for his testing. They call it a 5" coil but it is 5 1/2 " diameter and it is suppose to be available at a later date. My guess is they are super swamped with current tasks, especially with the Impact and the current coils and still having to maintain the previous model machines....I look forward to learning more about the impact.....
Just going by the videos Ive watched , but has anybody else noticed a soft or mushy signal coming from this detector when over a target ? I am used to a crisp , sharp signal....especially high tone , indicating exactly where that target is ,.....but what I keep seeing in the videos is....for lack of a better way to describe it at the moment , mushy in and mushy past the target , if that makes sense.
The tines are different for sure. But I can't really tell for sure. There is one video from jarod.j wherr he tests a lot of different coins to show the VDI numbers and some were crisp and others were kinda dull and mushy as you would say. I'm sure it has alot to do with your settings and program your running. But I can't say for sure.
I will try to post on the tones after I receive the impact. Im going to try to make videos but between work and 3 kids I don't know how successful I will be on that. But I'm going to try my best to put out everything I can!
I had some interest in the impact , but without a crisp tone I don't think I could get used to it. I am used to that clean crisp tone on target , the ATP has , as well as all the other detectors Ive had before.....not a soft lead in and out as Ive seen in the impact videos almost as if the tone starts softly before the target and then trails off as it leaves the target. Could be just me , or it could be just the video making it sound that way but it was really discouraging. I really am surprised others haven't mentioned it because it looks so prevalent in many of the videos.
That duck quack and goose squeak sound is a little harsh also. I am struggling a bit with that. Hoping its something not hard to get used to.
That is info I like to see. Can the impact be set to mute out nails but still hear big iron bits or is it, once you mute iron, it all is eliminated ? To be able to change the default tones could be good. The CTX astounds me for program flexibility and ease. The sounds will take some learning. I've been using a CTX for the passed 17 months and the range of tones are from 75 kHz to 1200. The Impact is from 150 to 700 so there is a much tighter range. You can customize and change some of the default tones. In DI3, I changed the default of 650 to 700 in the third tone segment.
Another thing to note, there are really two channels of sound. The first channel is the iron audio tone and you can mute or change the loudness of that channel with a scale of 1 to 5. The second channel is for anything but iron (sometimes iron will bleed outside of the 01-15 or 01-40 ferrous range) tones.
I can tell you, when you hit a coin especially silver the tones are more crisp and the range of the VDI's are in a tight range. I hit a silver barber at 7 1/2 inches and the VDI was 94-97 repeatable and the tone was very solid.
The Impact has been treating me very nicely. My 3 deepest coins over the past 17 months all have been found by the Impact in my hunted out park.
One negative thing is the machine is very sensitive and you will hear everything if you are running with no discrimination and no notching. My preference is muting the iron so it is not as bad. The positive about the machine is you can change a mode or change the detector frequency to confirm a target very easily and fast with the iron audio turned on. It is really an impressive machine.
