New to metal detecting!

Thank you all for your kind words. I am very excited to get started. My coworkers told me about a old planatation from the early or mid 1800s around Bay St. louis, Ms and its only about 20 minutes away so thats where I'm headed today or tomorrow. Can't Wait!!!

Welcome from SOuth Florida, You will love the Ace 250. Good Luck!

My name is RJ Russell and I am a 27 year old married father of three in Slidell, Louisiana just outside New Orleans. I have had an interest for sometime now, but just recently got my first metal detector (Garret Ace 250). I am excited to get started and move past my yard...lol. I have only found construction trash and one penny thus far. Can't wait to make my first great find and post it here for yall to see.
I know this is an old post but I split my time between Slidell and Luling area where we stay. I'm in Slidell from time to time if you're still looking for someone to hunt with

Welcome from Atlanta, GA. Good 1st choice. My adult son used an Ace 250 on CW relic hunts with me. I used my 800. I thought I would really outshine him with the latest and greatest metal detector on the market at that time. Hah, he found just as much good stuff as I did and sometimes more. Why, because at that time, I really didn't understand the many settings on the 800. At that time I was not smart enough to just stay in the stock settings which is what all newbies to the 800 should do for quite a while. The Ace 250 is a decent detector, long proven and easy to learn. The 800 is anything but easy to learn in my opinion. Keep hunting, do your research to find good places to hunt and you will find some good stuff.

Welcome aboard! That's a great machine to learn on! It took me a couple of weeks of really figuring out what signals to dig but the more you dig, the less you'll dig LOL! Definitely some cool stuff out your way, lots of history and old coins!! Before you know it, you'll have that "I can't believe I found this" find!

Welcome to the forum. The Ace 250 should serve you well. My first metal detector was a Relco (a brand that if it still existed, I would never recommend).

Good luck,

--Tom
