In my experiences,Minelab FBs multi frequency machines do great in iron, better than most that claim to excell in iron..I keep reading this thread and seeing it said that multi frequency are crippled in iron,,that couldn't be further from the truth in my experience as a coin hunter.
Maybe for a relic hunter,I don't know because I'm no relic hunter. But for coins,Minelab has always prevailed over all machines,in iron or not.Ive hunted and found coins in a clump full of nails with the Etrac,so I'm not sure why it keeps being said multi frequency aren't good in iron?
I never said for example CTX is terrible in iron,,there are better.
I had much rather use a CTX vs a white's XLT for example.
But what is that saying?
Put it this way, if Minelab would have released a 2 pound CTX,,performance that mirrors the original,,how many of those folks out west would pony up for one who hunt those old ghost towns?? Very few of the knowledgeable detectorist.
Now these Equinox units,,they just may pony up.
As ar as the CTX/Etrac on coins, coin shaped mid and higher conductors they do a lot better vs smaller than coin shaped, non disc shaped targets,,and the lower the conductor the worse they perform.
Some good small lower conductors in ghost towns for example.
The little gold dollar coin,,Equinox puts them in higher danger of being found Imwould think.
Actually a fair statement might me,,fbs/fbs2 users likely have left more $1 and $2.50 gold coins in the ground vs Deus users percentage wise in last 3 years.
And if this above statement is faulty.
I'll bet Deus users got tone on more $1 and $2.50 gold coins than the CTX/Etrac users did,, whether the coins were dug or not.
