Where I live there is not a lot of pre-Civil War coins. I have not found a bucket lister in like 4 years. Always the same old same old coins pretty much. only 3 Seated dimes in 7 years. Any late 1800's coin is a good day here. Even early 1900's Barber's and IHPs are real nice find in N.E. Arkansas. A couple of buddies and I started hunting a new spot. I think it's pretty old. I am still researching to find out when it was first inhabited and farmed. I was having a pretty dismal last couple of days. A lot of brass and copper stuff relic type stuff but few coins. I had only found one IHP so far. But about 5 hours in today I got what I thought was going to be an Indian Head cent. Solid 59-60 on the Manticore. I dug a plug and started going through it with the pinpointer. I kept hearing it but had a hard time finding it. When I finally saw it I thought oh wow it can't be what I think it is. I called my buddy over and showed him it lying there. I said if that is play money I am going to be sick. I picked it up and could barely belive I'd dug my first Seated half dime. It was a 1857 to boot! I ended up finding a nice flat button only a few yards from the half dime. My buddy found the Eagle cuff button not far from there also. Hopfully there will be more good stuff there.

Welcome to the exclusive & elite seated half-dime club. You can now learn the secret handshake ! :friends:

Thanks guys, I've had Half Dimes and Large Cents in my dreams for awhile now. I hope I dig a Large Cent one of these days.

What a thrill to see that Longbow! EXTREMELY elusive around here in southern Wisconsin. While fortune has brought me 2 in 12 years I’m still wanting that stupid trime to show up! At this point I might as well be a ghost hunter…
Days like that are ones to remember, I’m sure you will! Congrats!!

Thanks IDX, so my buddy wanted me to swing over the half dime this evening. The air test I.D. on the Manticore was 65-66, which is 5-6 points higher than than it rang up in the ground. I thought 59-60 was a little low for a half dime, but when I dug it that was the I.D. I was getting all the way around it. I was thinking I at best had an IHP. The place is loaded with iron and modern trash. I guess something was pulling the I.D. down a bit.

Great stuff there. I'd say that site ups your chance of finding a large cent. Good luck, I hope you get it!
