Draped bust copper

Hey everyone, got out for 2 hours this weekend, due to rain. This is the highlight, she's toasty but a nice toasty IMO. Found in the local sandbox  I think the weather might finally be turning pretty soon, so that always seems to make the hunting better. As always thanks for looking and happy hunting!

It’s official.... you absolutely SUCK! AGAIN! One day man,one day...I will dig a BUST something. Even if I have to drive all the way out there to do it!
Just an unreal find Jeff, you should be buzzing for a WEEK after that one!

Arthur,it’s likely the result of boredom and the coin getting “worked”, or it was actually being used for a purpose. It’s hard to say sometimes what the heck happened. Any ideas on your end?

No well-informed idea, unfortunately... but it looks like it was done intentionally, doesn't it? And I bet there's an interesting story behind it. Could have been done to make a sort of pocket tool? Something that could be used to sharpen a point on a softer material, like wood or bone, maybe. Someting tiny like a pen or a needle. Or if the notch was originally sharp, to cut thread?

Just guessing. I got curious, and was hoping someone had seen something like it before. Probably overanalyzing.

Fantastic find! Congrats!

Agreed,it looks “purpose made”. We may never know, unless someone knows...

Just amazing .......can't believe the old history you guys have under your feet......
So so jealous .......and we're still snow covered out this way........

Nice save.......Can't wait to see what you dig up next........

Heck, you east coast guys don't even need to go to a sandbox to get your bust coins. All you need to do is stand in a random field. Blindfold yourself. Throw rock in any direction. And I'll bet the rock hits a bust coin. Right ? :sissyfight:

No tom thats how we find wheaties and indians. Pretty much just toss a shovel into the air and dig where it lands, and usually at least a wheatie pops up. Sadly the bust coins require the blind fold to be removed so we can aim in a direction that looks like something might have been there.

Also when you coming out to the east coast so I can get you digging real history?

I am going to try and get out tonight. Probably tomorrow too.

Ill be out later tonight after work, but this weekend ill be spending some more time in the woods, I've located an abandoned park a few towns over, still researching a little, as there is almost no mention of it on the initial Google search. Lets hope it hasn't been crushed already  good luck if you get out, keep me posted!
