I headed out today to a local patch of woods I've hit many times before with good success. As I was walking out to the location I pass over a small bridge at a dam and there is this crazy whirlpool being sucked down to the pipe the pond drains through. I've included a pic but I wish I could figure out how to import my videos into Windows movie maker, I get an error. I got a cool video of the whirlpool as well as a video of one of my silvers for the day, a merc. I ended up getting two mercs for the day, both 1924 and 3 wheats (1917, '18, '19) and a cool monogrammed business card holder. BTW, the raspberries were delicious and you'll understand the name of this thread when you see the last picture.:D

P.s. I just remembered I also found a 1912 V-nickel which is currently soaking in Worcestershire sauce. I'll take a pic and post it here when it's ready.

Today's thread soundtrack....The Highwaymen, Big River.

Fantastic finds!
Does that token have a date on it? looks like a couple 8's

Thanks, the numbers are "8 & 8". I'm not sure what that means but I guess it could mean 1988. It was found near the mercs at about the same depth though. It rang up as a quarter, 12-46 so I was expecting a silver quarter. Oh well, it a cool find none the less.

good digs and great pics scott! congrats on the silvers, and that token is cool.

i got a few wheats this morn, oldest is in the 20's, but no silver. too stinkin dry here. the wheats were only 3-4 inches, and gave some crazy signals. i did get one copper penny that rang up as a deep zinc, and it was only 2 inches down. i'm done till we get some rain. just cant see the deeper coins in the super dry and hard dirt.

Great hunt and pics, Scott. I always enjoy your photography. I love raspberries, they're almost ripe here. I should have some in about a week, if I can get to them before the birdies clean them out.

Nice finds and pics,Scott! Great silvers and that token is really cool. Are those blackberries?

Thanks guys, it was a great 4 day weekend with a total of 7 silvers. Hook, I don't blame you for taking a break if it's so dry you can't hit more than a few inches deep. We got something like 6+ inches of rain last week so that's the only thing that saved me. BTW, the raspberries were delicious. I was so happy when I saw them as I was walking down the path. I saw a few blueberries also while I was out but not enough to bother picking them. I think the birds grab those as soon as their ripe. Well, off to work.

Great pictures. Pretty cool being a year off from having one of the most expensive nickles ever made pop. Of 5 I think 1913 v

The 8&8 reference could be a message.

Back when I was at work, in an office, I would get calls from my sweetheart for various things (do we need milk? Did you let the cat out?) etc.

I knew I couldn't say flat out "I love you" to end the call. Finally we hit on a way to send the message. Calls ended like this:

"OK, yes, I'll be home at the regular time. Eight!" "Eleven!" *click*

Eight is the same number of letters in "I love you." Eleven is the same as "I love you, too." Even in swkward situations today or just as shorthand we use it.

Three or four years ago, when I had my collapse and subsequent surgeries (saved my miserable hide, they did! :D ) when I was in the recovery room, my Beloved was there. I was dizzy, in and out, swimming. Didn't have the strength to really talk. She smiled at me "You're OK. It's all done. Eight."

I had enough strength to reply "Eleven." then went back to sleep. Suddenly the world was all right again.

Here are the pics of the 1912 V-nickel. It's seen better days but I'm still proud to have it in my collection. I used Worcestershire sauce to get the red off but it only works on the initial side that it is placed on. I think next nickel I need to somehow suspend the coin in the liquid instead of placing it one side up and then flipping. It seems if you don't get it off on the first time it doesn't get both sides. Maybe I need to leave the second side in longer. I will need to do some experimenting with it. Does anybody see an 'S' mintmark on it? If you do it's a key date. I've tried zooming in but I don't see one.

nice grab on that V Scott!! sooooooooo close to the big cahuna . i'm wondering if you would try the SOS pad treatment. its a possible key date, but if there's no other way to get a view of that S mintmark............
