Cheers,
I am new to the ranks of metal detecting as of today and I am hooked! I purchased two metal detectors online the other day, one for myself (a Quicksilver QSI by Bounty Hunter) and one for my younger sister of seven. Hers arrived first, a Ground EFX MC1 youth detector and in my impatience I wanted to get out there so I brought it out on the virgin run. I was able to locate, within a couple of hours a large sign that took approximately fifteen minutes to dig out and turned out to be an antique Velvet Tobacco sign. Upon research, I found that the same sign has sold for between $200-500 on eBay! I think I might hang on to this for awhile though. It is my first real find after all, and all with a child's metal detector! I guess I can give it the official seal of approval!

Been to a lot of auctions. Never seen a vintage sign go cheap. They all wind up out of my price range quick. I thought one sign would go for about $125. It went for $850:lol:

More Finds That Night

Thanks for the warm welcomes all and yes, I am very excited about this find! So excited, that I went out later that night and did a little hunting down on a private beach (don't worry, I have property rights) where I dug up a bunch of clad, a couple of unique looking pieces and I don't want to jump to any conclusions but.. musket balls? I did the research to check authenticity and the sizes, weight, and general appearance seems to add up..

Anybody with more expertise than I have any idea?

And Silver King: About fifteen minutes.. It was angled downwards and I had to wiggle and slide it out of the ground like a knife from a sheath!
