Picked up a Legend the last week of Sept. So far I'm really impressed. Its a pleasure to swing and has no problem hitting deeper targets. I read a comment one poster said that he thought the Legend heavy and the menu was difficult to navigate. He is using a D2 and compared to that I see his point but in the category with the Equinox its very close and the first hunt I had it on with the 12x9 coil I swung it for almost 8 hours with no wrist or shoulder fatigue. And as far as the menu goes, when I first saw the videos I thought it looked pretty in depth but in actuality its quite easy to navigate and the sub menus are right where they should be. On that first hunt I was at an old church yard that had been well hunted by me, others and even the pastor was an avid Md'r. So starting with the deck stacked against it I had it in Field M1 6 tone AM Rec. 4 IF 4. The reason for Field was, in my test garden it was hitting 7 in. targets cleaner. Although it ran a little jumpy with default sensitivity I was able to find 22 pennies, a few recent drops but a good deal of older memorials, a couple of nickels and some bits and bobs. I lost my bone conductors on the last trip there. For those of you who prefer the Minelab tones, the tones are quite similar and are adjustable.
The things that cinched the deal for me with the Legend was the third party headphone option, the coil selection and last but not least the mineralization meter. So after losing my bone conductors I tried pairing my Avantrees headphones without success. The ML80s and my earbuds would pair but no go with the Avantrees. I really prefer headphones and as soon as the weather cools a bit I switch to them. Begrudgingly I broke down and bought the Nokta ones. I will say they are comfortable and the audio is quite good.
I got a new yard permission last week and wanted to give the LG24 a try. Same settings as above but in 4 Tone. I used it on the second trip. First trip I used the 800/stock coil. I'll post separate about that. Don't want to make it a Legend vs. this or that thread. So I ran it for little over 6 hours, man I really like that 6x9 coil. It was nailing 6-7 in. targets easily. It ran smooth all day even with the sensitivity cranked up to 28 .I was pretty close to power lines as well. I like the Ferrocheck feature also. I just have to remember to look at it more. lol When you get one of those sweet sounding high tones with numbers topping the scale and you suspect iron wrap around but it sounds too good to walk away from, a glance at ferrocheck will show all iron. Of the 10 plus hours I used it in this yard I was only fooled a few times with falsing off the tip of a rusty nail. And these were all down 8in. or more. The manual says even if only one or two bars on the ferrous side indicate some ferrous content in the target but on that I'm still in the "show me " stage. So far, after a dozen or so times it been right every time. And then I start thinking what if thats a good target with iron right next to it ? The one disappointment I did have was the Legend just like the 800 & 900 severely up averages in my dirt. Not just on deep targets either. The religious medal was a 52. I thought I had silver but it turns out it was just aluminum. I had memorials and wheats hitting 55. One when I scanned the dirt on my towel. I'm used to it by now but was hoping the Legend with the LG24 was going to be my yard picker. One thing I would like to see is the navigation keys highlighted. They are blacked out and in anything but bright daylight you can't see the icons. Now some might say use it enough and you'll know the keys and that might be so but highlighted keys for quick reference in the field would be a nice feature.
So to highlight my finds from that yard, the coolest find was a James E. Pepper Whiskey token, a fob that is a clock??? A good luck and 3 Chuckie Cheese tokens. A 1961 swim tag 5 wheaties, about a buck thirty in clad including 2 65 GWs a 65 dime also. No silver. I still remember thinking how much I enjoyed the machine on that day and I look forward to using it more.
