You might make out ok because of the year. The older ones are not so forgiven when you repair them.

Old but still great Garrett Master Hunter ADS III

I have seen people say that the Garrett groundhog is ok for its age, are their any others? i was thinking it would be worth knowing what would make a good backup detector or one for a friend? Then i could keep my eye's open at the yard sales..

My Garrett Master Hunter ADS III hung on a pegboard hook since 1984 when I stopped detecting. March 21 of this year I started it up again. Took it out two times, one hour each time, and it performed just as great as back in 84'. Found a Mercury dime and some clad on both occasions.

That detector found so much good stuff, mostly with the 12" coil, that it paid for itself, scuba certification, an XL 500 Sea Hunter and still have plenty of leftovers.
It will hold up to practically any detector today. Only thing missing is the fancy graphs and icons.

I did recently buy a new White's Spectra V3i and it seems like it will be a great machine too but as of right now ( limited times out with it and still learning ) I can honestly say that I have not found anything with it that the ADS III would not have found also.

If you can get one that works you will not go wrong.

Mike

I started out years ago with the old White's Coinmasters, and recently aquired 2 6000 Di Pro's from some old friends who can't hunt anymore. I'm looking forward to swinging the working one(Pro SL model). Gotta have that arm cup.
