U.S.P.S = Completely USELESS

Finally got here about 4:00. USPS doesn't really give a time, but FedEx just gives bad estimates.

USPS does it again! I have some mineral specimens I won at auction, and they arrived at Merrifield @ 4:21AM, departed on a truck for Arlington at 3 in the afternoon, went between a couple of offices in Arlington, and then back to Merrifield! Since today is Saturday, and they won't deliver that package on Sunday, HOPEFULLY I'll get it on Monday.

I just hope the Christmas presents I ordered for my brother and sister are shipped UPS.

WOW! Following where your package is bouncing around back and forth is like the old Abbot & Costello routine of "who's on first?"

I understand thee is probably no humor in this for you.

Sometimes it's not the USPS who is at fault. One time, back in the mid 1980's I ordered a complete set of uncirculated Franklin Half Dollars from a coin dealer in Ohio. At the time I was living in the town of BALTIC, Conn. I sent a money order so there was no waiting for a check to clear. I had the order sent to my PO box number address which was PO Box 383 BALTIC, CT. After about three weeks I still hadn't received my coins. I called the company I ordered the coins from and explained my situation. The owner said he'd run a check to see what happened. Come to find out, whoever put my order in the mail sent them to PO Box 383 BALTIMORE, MD. The post office discovered that the coins were sitting in the Baltimore post office not yet picked up by anyone. Two weeks or so later, they sent the coins to me.

If this had happened today, I would say it was a lazy person's autocomplete error. Back in the 1980's, there were other errors, like someone trying to ship something to Vienna, Austria being told that "Austria" was NOT an acceptable abbreviation for "Australia" by the USPS clerk.

They have to computerize now, since public school students today aren't really good with geography.

Earlier this year I ordered some canadian coins from a dealer in Canada. I've done business with this particular company a number of times before with no problem. This time, the coins hadn't arrived in more than three weeks so I called the Canadian company, and they gave me a Canadian Post Office tracking number which showed that the coins were sitting in LAX airport customs division awaiting inspection. After three months of still having my coins sitting in customs I was given a refund from the coin company. I won't order any coins from Canada ever again.

The only packages from Canada I've received recently came through Chicago without any problems. They contained mineral samples for the most part. With coins, you may have that issue where they have to determine if the host country has some national interest in them, but I don't think that would apply to Canadian coins from Canada. However, I have no idea how far customs wants to reach to rattle its sword.

Other than mineral samples, I've received only salt & pepper shakers from Expo '67 and some comic books.

It's strange how sodalite (blue) fluoresces yellow.
