Sticker Shock Today (Twice)

Im getting my Arkansas firewood permit ready for this year. Excited to use our blower insert that came with home purchase. I think its $20 for 4-5 chords.

For those who do not know, to collect firewood for home consumption, the USDA Forest Service requires a firewood permit. It specifies where cutting is allowed and places a non-commercial limit. This improves the local forest by removing some hardwood species that would eventually crowd out the pine forest. Part of mantaining the forest.

Hey G! Speaking of the Prius, we get many in the shop with stolen cat converters! There is a company that makes an antitheft metal plate to rivet onto the Prius body to eliminate theft.
The cat costs $1500 plus labor if stolen!!!

Thats California compliant for you. Cost would be around $150 in the other states.

What forest and district? What is their detecting regs on forest land?

Dunno detecting regs - don’t know if I’ve ever looked them up yet or not.

Just looked it up, Man their site sucks  “regs”: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3851963.pdf

Called today and said no permit needed “at the moment” due to covid. Which is odd because last year I just mailed a check for one  but not complaining. While calling I realized there’s probably too much snow ATM to cut anyway, go figure.

Gas has jumped 45 cents per gallon since Jan 20. I expect to see a much larger increase in the next few months.

Usally in Missouri prices go down some in the winter because they change the formula of the fuel . https://www.gasbuddy.com/go/summer-blend-and-winter-blend-gasoline

You are right, we are in the tail end of the "winter blends". I blend gas for a living, and I am currently making what is considered 15 pound gasoline - referring to the vapor pressure. In the next few weeks, I will start lowering it to 13.5 pounds, then 11 pounds, and finally 9 pound for summer season. Everytime I lower the vapor pressure, it costs us more to make. The EPA regulates which vapor pressure I blend as it pertains to the date. During winter season, I can put as much as 25% butanes and pentanes (light ends) in gasoline, which makes it cheaper. Lowering the vapor pressure means fewer and fewer lights, and each gallon becomes more expensive.

Figured i better put that in in case some states don't have winter blends . I am down in Florida right now but wife is back home in Missouri, when she gassed up the other day price was still under $2.00 per gallon. I think i paid $2.49 per gallon here in Florida to fill my truck. Definatly still winter there in Missouri for a while.

Yep, central Arkansas is scheduled to get our first real blast of winter weather this week, but that is normal...middle February is our coldest time of the year here....expecting freezing rain and ice tonight with temps in the single digits by the weekend! It would be nice to be in Florida this time of year...or southern Arizona!:laughing:

I started burning wood exclusively for heat about 10 years ago when the price of propane spiked @ $3.79/gal. Around here the propane companies have a 200 gallon 'minimum drop", so when the price spiked it cost over $700 for less than a half tank (500 gal. tank). Since my work is seasonal, and winter is my "off-season", during the last depression I would have starved paying that price on top of my mortgage, taxes, and insurance. So what I did was buy a wood stove, and I had the propane company take the 500 gallon tank away and replace it with a 120 gallon tank that now only runs my water heater and cook stove. Now there's no way that they can hit me for the 200 gallon minimum anymore, so when it spikes again (and it will) I'll be fine. I also typically go 9-10 months on that 120 gallon tank, and fill it over the summer when the prices are lower.
I can't even imagine how much money I've saved over the years by burning wood, but I know it far exceeds what I spent on my saws and splitter.

Got out for a hut today down here in Florida almost 80 degrees , lots of rain coming this weekend. :tropical: :sun2:

If i was back home in Missouri wouldn't be doing any detecting right now , Freezing rain , snow and ice and below freezing tempatures.

Yes sir! KT just got back from a run in His Majesty's Chariot to ye local filling station and purchased 3 5-gallon cans of gasoline for the Royal generators, just in case the stations power goes out also...saw that in the ice storm of 1990, will not be fooled again! Besides, the 3 Royal vehicles can be topped off when needed if His Majesty's generators are not needed.

probably a good idea looks like that storm will hit you https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/t...ee-including-dallas/ar-BB1dAci2?ocid=msedgntp

Looks like we will see a lot of rain in the north part of Florida for next several days. :raincloud: :stormy: but at least not snow

No snow this morning in the Royal Realm, but enough of a coating of ice on streets and vegetation to cause state government and many local businesses to cancel the work day or switch to virtual work day from home. Schools cancelled or switched to a virtual school day. Since the start of the Virus situation, the work at home and virtual school day have become a new normal so even tho businesses that depend on foot traffic are shut down, many are working and getting their jobs done in these conditions. So far KT has heard of no power outages locally so Me thinketh We dodged ye Royal Bullet this time! :D:D

Hearing about your gasoline prices makes me jealous, $3.80 a gallon down here for at least the past few months. Right when covid hit hard prices went to half that but I only managed to fill up twice on the low prices.
I seem to get sticker shock every time I go shopping, jeezzzz!
