was kinda suprised to see this pop up, I was pretty much resigned to continue my awful silver drought, when out popped this.....I had dug 4 wheats oldest being 36 so I figuerd the best I would do was something from that era, but much to my happy suprise surfaced this Seated, it does have a hole so it is quite possible it is a loss from the 30's maybe someone was wearing it or something......Now I think something is funny about this coin, I didnt clean it other then rinse with water (no rubbing ) if you look at the word America it seems smeared or blurred , what do you think?? maybe some type of error or just my eyes......anyhow I put it inot a coin flip and will hang on to it, maybe have the dude at the coin shop take a peek......The red book has no mention of an error coin from this year (that dont mean anything BUT>>>)........Thanks for looking and take care

Congrats on the coin! For some reason it looks kinda funny to me. Almost looks like a reproduction or a fake in some respects. The smearing of the letters and just the overall texture seems strange. Can you post a pic of the reverse?

I hear ya on that one. ;)

Is it possible the coin was made specifically for a charm bracelet? The edges are kind of sitting wrong, you know, not even. like the design was pressed into the metal or stamped on?

Anybody else have a seated in this year?

here is the back, I see the hole is not all the way through, so I have no idea what is with that.......It does look strange, But I dont think it is a fake dime, the weight is right on......

Very nice find! I do not think it is fake, but I think it either has a weird wear pattern, mint error, or some one has altered it at some point.

Again, GREAT FIND!

I was just thinking, with the hole halfway drilled, do you guys think maybe someone had it in a vice and it kinda distorted it, looking at it all the little ridges in that spot are completely invisible, maybe in a vice and it started comming loose so the person stopped drilling??

That is a very good theory as to why it looks the way it does!

Interesting coin.

I was looking at my red guide book of US coins. It looks to me as if this was one of the few
seated liberty coins to have the legend written around the coin.
Most others either have stars, or are left blank ?

Are dimes still in circulation ?

Interesting find - The obverse doesn't look right. I would think it was a cast counterfeit, but did they counterfeit dimes? The obv. has a texture which doesn't look right. The distortion of the letters in America doesn't seem like it could happen with a struck coin. Anyway, it's a great find one way or the other. Will be interested in what an expert has to say.

I wonder if maybe someone was having fun attempting to heat it up to melt it? it looks almost "runny" on the front and then on the back the middle looks like a tiny different color like it had been attempted to be melted

Maybe it spent time in the water? Front looks a little sand blasted too.
