Generally I consider a hunt to be a success if I find "one good thing."

Today I was hunting a friend's land in a part of NY that actually belonged to Mass until the 1850s. We were close to wrapping up and I was close to being skunked on the day when I got a solid 93 on the manticore a few feet from the road. Generally a high tone near the road means a can or car part but not this time.

As soon as I saw those rings I knew I had a Fugio Cent!!! Of course it's beat up from the road salt but I don't really care. Still can't believe it! This coin had lots of meat on it when it was lost.

Here it is seeing sunlight for the first time in 200 years.

And here it is after conservation.

East coast colonial coppers and LC's : SICK, sick, sick. I especially hate the fresh reveal pix ! :frustrated:

Congratulations on an incredible find, and thanks for the history lesson. I had never heard of the Fugio cent before.

Such an important coin with amazing history and historical significance. Hopefully someday I will be lucky enough to find one. Huge congrats!
