I found this at a site where I found some colonial buttons, a Massachusetts copper and other old relics! This was found about 50 feet from the cellar and was on the other side of the rock wall! Initials I believe say either J.B. PAT or J.R. PAT! Any ideas??

Well it seems pretty clear it is a form of a latch. The "L" portion is clearly the latch or lock. The long arm is released by hand or the use of a cam. How's that for thinking outside the box. I'm intrigued. Very cool.

possibly part from a flintlock, matchlock, or wheellock trigger mechacnism?

Second guess. Part of some indexing mechanism for a piece of machinery or machine shop tool.
