Nokta Makro Legend feedback, use, comparisons, etc

I want to do full reset (guess this is what Nokta’s instructions are to do after updating to version 1.08.

This Legend crash course is fun. Just don’t want to give bad info.

I have already given wrong information on the Legend a couple of times to people on a different forum and certainly did here about the 1.08 ground balance change nickel oddity. Hopefully my post above this one is a start at correcting my mistake.

The User Profiles in general have me confused most of the time. They work well however but are a pain to setup at least for me. Maybe you or someone will find some shortcuts. I noticed that Clive Clynick has already written a Legend guide. Hopefully it includes 1.08. I have never used a third party guide for any detector but I may actually need one for the Legend!

I may do a few tutorial videos on Legend. When I get smart enough with it. Sure don’t want to be bumbling fool trying to show folks something.
Lot of videos I do are more extemporaneous. Little planning or rehearsing. Folks may not know this.

Version 1.09 is available.
Should correct what’s is shown in video above.
I will update my unit.
And redo test and post video if it is corrected.
Video coming soon.
Problem with V1.08 seems is indeed corrected with V1.09.

Correction definitely shown in video using V1.09
Enjoy the video.

They have another new update ? How many updates do all these computerized detectors really need ? Anyway I liked the night test with the light. Yes , it's not very bright. Would be nice if that was adjustable as I hunt at night on occasion.

Video I did. Checking for ID consistency when changing noise cancel channels.
Looked very good. I checked even more than shown in video. After I turned off camera.

Remember no soil/mineralization affecting ID in qbice tests.
But at least the detector is starting off from a very good point before we add dirt/mineralization.

I see keeping a machine updated as a good thing. When the updating stops is the thing to be concerned with.

In theory that sounds good. Except some updates on EVERY updateable detector I've seen have had an update to correct an update. I know ground conditions are different worldwide. But if proper testing is done to begin with , you wouldn't need constant updates. Older machines certainly don't have this problem.

With all due respect KOB, you're wrong on so many levels.

Wouldn't be the 1st time. Let's hear it , Idk everything. Way i look at it is not a plugged in computer doing automatic fixes or updates. If i have a Nox for example and everything is working fine , why would i want to update it ? I'm having no problems....

Older machines don't have the capabilities of the new detectors either. Not as fast. Not as good in iron. Most older detectors are single frequency and don't do well in many places. How many single frequencies work on the beach ? Updates are great. My only request would be for the manufacturers to leave each update on their site in case some have a particular version they prefer.

I see your point. That's why people usually had a couple machines. Even now though with the MF's , people still have multiples.

Older machines......there were some great ones. However, none of them got any depth where I often hunt. Swinging an 11" coil on the end of an F75 or a 10 or 12" coil on the end of an MXT and being able to maybe hit a 6" target and maybe ID correctly a 3" target.....that got old quick. I just never kept any of the big coils and only used small ones. The CTX 3030 didn't do much better except it could go deeper overall but ID on any target deeper than 6" was iron.

Along came the Equinox and even the Vanquish models. In the dirt out here they made those older great detectors look silly especially a $179 Vanquish 340 absolutely killing those single frequency detectors and even the CTX 3030 for depth and target ID accuracy. Yes, they had to be updated and we early users were basically Beta testers but updates were easy.

Deus 2 is the same situation. We are just Beta testers and knowing XP, they will eventually get everything just like their engineers and maybe some of us want it to be.

The Legend updates have been fine except for version 1.06 which was a bust....so was Deus 2's 0.6...both got pulled fairly quickly. The only real issue with the Legend is performing the update. Universal Windows compatibility has been a mess with people spending hours just trying to get their computer to notice that an exterior device is plug into it via USB.

But it beats paying for shipping to who knows where to have a detector's firmware updated and being without the detector for a few weeks, which is what some MX7, MX Sport owners had to do. Same with sending in Tesoros to have coils tuned to the detector or to have ground balance pots adjusted for more challenging ground. Same for getting an F75 or T2 more EMI resistant.....

These online updates are absolutely amazing in my opinion and if a user or group of users complains/begs loud enough they can almost get a detector that is tailor made for their hunting conditions through an update.

Not sure about v1.09,,,im running 1.08 and couldn't imagine it being better. My ID is stable,,I run recovery at 7 and sens at 30 with no chatter,no nothing. Almost feels like a etrac it runs so smooth..now I won't run 30 sens all the time,I just tried that with no issues at all. I usually run 20 sens on equinox,22 on explorer,etc.. never seen a advantage of going full steam on sensitivity on any machine I've owned .

You have made some great valid points. All of which are true. It's just hard for me to accept the "we are all beta testers " approach. With any product , they should have 99% of it figured out before it gets to market. Like the old days...

Woody.
Look at my videos.
1.08 has flaw without a doubt.

Cheers.
