I'm sure theres alot of guys who like Skynyrd here, I always thought Gary was the coolest of the bunch, he rarely ever smiled he just sat back and played away .. One of those guys who made it look nearly effortless, very innovative player, RIP
[I hope they put Skynyrd to rest now, really time to retire the franchise with a little shred of dignity now that there are no original band members left standing] They have pretty much been a glorified cover band these past couple decades but Gary gave them credibility.

I agree they should be put to rest now. Luckily, I got front row seating for the original and the post-accident bands and they were both epic. Rickey Medlocke is one of the best guitarists ever IMO.

Ah man! 😮

Gary was the best. I'm a Les Paul fan myself. I got to see Lynyrd Skynyrd several years ago and was on my bucket list.

R.I.P. Gary.

Original band would be a dream concert for sure, I was outside of the age range for that I was about 8 when they crashed and remember it for some reason, I think the unusual name sounded silly and cool to me and stuck. Didn't take long for me to become a fan once I reached my teens, it was obvious they were something special, especially before the cover band was launched.

I have nothing against guys making $$ and musicians playing music but the whole thing was tacky right from the start. They vowed never to play again under that name, they did. They vowed never to play Freebird, they did. They actually signed a contract that 3 surviving members must be part of the band else its a no go, they broke the contract when there was only 2, goes on and on and they were quite obviously milking the name to the bone ,, With that said, can't say I personally would not have done the same. But for the reasons above, never wanted to see them and never did, I saw them as pretenders but Gary was legit.

Medlocke is indeed very good, had some top notch original music with Blackfoot.

At least Gary himself called the reformed band "a tribute" band. He knew it could never be the same.
